Time evolution of medium and long-period ground tilting at Campi Flegrei caldera

2020

Abstract. We analyse tiltmeter time series recorded from April 2015 to March 2019 at three borehole instruments installed at Campi Flegrei caldera (Italy). We evaluate the crustal response in terms of ground tilting to external excitations of medium/long-period tidal constituents by applying a polarization analysis. The azimuths of the tilt vectors show well-defined polarization directions and the ground tilting planes oscillate with the periodicity of the corresponding tidal constituents. For two of the three tiltmeters, the average ground oscillation pattern related to the monthly Mm and fortnightly Mf constituents show seasonal variations, which can be ascribed to rainfall-induced tiltin…

Comparison of frequency domain measures based on spectral decomposition for spontaneous baroreflex sensitivity assessment after Acute Myocardial Infa…

2021

Abstract The objective of this study is to present a new method to assess in the frequency domain the directed interactions between the spontaneous variability of systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and heart period (HP) from their linear model representation, and to apply it for studying the baroreflex control of arterial pressure in healthy physiological states and after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The method is based on pole decomposition of the model transfer function and on the following evaluation of causal measures of coupling and gain from the poles associated to low frequency (0.04−0.15 Hz) oscillatory components. It is compared with traditional non-causal approaches for the sp…

European vestibular experiments on the Spacelab-1 mission: 7. Ocular counterrolling measurements pre- and post-flight.

1986

The static ocular counterrolling (OCR) of the four scientific crew members in the first Spacelab mission was measured during baseline-data-collection before and after the flight of SL-1. It was presumed that the modification of otolithic responses during spaceflight will be reflected in specific changes of the OCR-gain on the first days after recovery. The magnitude of OCR was determined analysing colour-transparencies of subjects right eyes that were produced in different positions of lateral body tilt. In general, one subject did not show any changes at all; three subjects exhibited a significant decrease of OCR-gain after exposure to weightlessness, whereby differences could be found bet…

Serous Macular Detachment Associated with Dome-Shaped Macula and Tilted Disc

2011

Introduction: An entirely new type of staphyloma has been recently described as dome-shaped macula (DSM). It is characterized by an abnormal convex macular contour within the concavity of a posterior staphyloma. We found DSM associated with serous macular detachment (SMD) and tilted disc in two consecutive cases. Case Reports: Case 1: A 37-year-old female presented to our department because of sudden onset blurred vision in her right eye (OD). The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.5 in both eyes. Funduscopy evidenced bilateral tilted disc associated with posterior staphyloma. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) demonstrated a DSM with SMD in her OD. After 15 months of follow-up, BCVA…

Causal analysis of short-term cardiovascular variability: state-dependent contribution of feedback and feedforward mechanisms.

2016

Baroreflex function is usually assessed from spontaneous oscillations of blood pressure (BP) and cardiac RR interval assuming a unidirectional influence from BP to RR. However, the interaction of BP and RR is bidirectional—RR also influences BP. Novel methods based on the concept of Granger causality were recently developed for separate analysis of feedback (baroreflex) and feedforward (mechanical) interactions between RR and BP. We aimed at assessing the proportion of the two causal directions of the interactions between RR and systolic BP (SBP) oscillations during various conditions, and at comparing causality measures from SBP to RR with baroreflex gain indexes. Arterial BP and ECG sig…

Stress and recovery assessment during simulated microgravity: Effects of exercise during a long-term head down tilt bed rest in women.

2009

International audience; The aim of this study was to determine the effects of a 60-day head-down tilt long-term bed rest (HDT) on stress and recovery in sixteen healthy female volunteers. Participants were randomly assigned to either an exercise group (Exe) that followed a training program combining resistive and aerobic exercises, or to a no-exercise control group (Ctl). Psychological states were assessed using the Rest-Q, a validated questionnaire based on stress-recovery responses. A longitudinal analysis revealed significant changes in the general and specific-stress scales for all participants throughout the experiment with a critical stage from supine to standing posture leading to a …

Information domain approach to the investigation of cardio-vascular, cardio-pulmonary, and vasculo-pulmonary causal couplings

2011

The physiological mechanisms related to cardio-vascular (CV), cardio-pulmonary (CP), and vasculo-pulmonary (VP) regulation may be probed through multivariate time series analysis tools. This study applied an information domain approach for the evaluation of non-linear causality to the beat-to-beat variability series of heart period (t), systolic arterial pressure (s), and respiration (r) measured during tilt testing and paced breathing (PB) protocols. The approach quantifies the causal coupling from the series i to the series j (C(ij)) as the amount of information flowing from i to j. A measure of directionality is also obtained as the difference between two reciprocal causal couplings (D(i…

New intraocular lens for achromatizing the human eye.

2007

To describe the design of a new intraocular lens (IOL) capable of correcting spherical and chromatic aberrations when implanted in the human eye.University of Murcia, Murcia, and University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain.A hybrid singlet achromatic IOL was designed. The IOL has a combination of a refractive and a diffractive surface, with 1 of the surfaces being aspherical. Optical simulations were used to model the polychromatic modulation transfer function (MTF) in pseudophakic eyes to explain the differences in optical quality afforded by the achromatic IOL. Parameters such as focus shift, optical path difference, through-focus, and robustness to tilt and decentering of achromatic IOLs wer…

Overvåking av vitale parametere i sykehus : En sammenligning av manuelle og elektroniske overvåkingssystemer

2018

Masteroppgave i helse- og sosialinformatikk HSI500 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Adverse events can be avoided by timely recognition of derangements in vital signs. Sørlandet Hospital HF (SSHF) has implemented an Early Warning Score System named "TILT"; 2Early identification of life-threatening conditions”. In 2017 SSHF started a project that tested wireless sensors for continuous monitoring of vital signs on wards. Patients were monitored by sensors and vital signs were also measured by traditional means during the project period. The aim of this study was to examine compliance with the vital signs monitoring protocol, and to examine the benefits of an electronic system. The following quest…
