This study compared subjective with objective sleep parameters among 72 physical education students. Furthermore, the study determined whether 24-hr recording differs from nighttime recording only. Participants wore the SenseWear Armband™ for three consecutive nights and kept a sleep log. Agreement rates ranged from moderate to low for sleep onset latency (ICC = 0.39 to 0.70) and wake after sleep onset (ICC = 0.22 to 0.59), while time in bed (ICC = 0.93 to 0.95) and total sleep time (ICC = 0.90 to 0.92) revealed strong agreement during this period. Many occupations and sports require high levels of manual dexterity under thermal stress and mental fatigue. Yet, multistressor studies remain scarce. We quantified the interactive effects of thermal stress and mental fatigue on manual dexterity. Orthopedic versus surgical treatment of Gartland type II supracondylar humerus fracture in children.

The choice of orthopedic or surgical treatment for Gartland type II supracondylar humeral fractures remains controversial. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare the outcomes in orthopedic and surgical treatment in type II supracondylar humeral fractures in children treated in the Orthopedic and Traumatology Children Unit of our tertiary hospital over the period between 2007 and 2010. This study suggests that orthopedic treatment is a valid option for the treatment of this type of fractures, with radiological and functional results as good as those obtained with surgical treatment, avoiding surgical complications and decreasing the hospital stay.

In a follow up of 94 patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) whose onset had taken place less than 1 year earlier, optociliary veins (OCVs) were found in 7.4% at first examination. Among the 79 eyes in which the fundus of the eye was very visible after a follow up of more than 1 year OCVs were found in 30.4%, showing a late development of OCVs in many cases of CRVO. No difference was found in the occurrence of OCVs between non-ischaemic and ischaemic forms of CRVO. The visual acuity of the eyes with CRVO that developed OCVs was not significantly different from the visual acuity of the eyes without OCVs.
