Les modèles de classe ARC
1993
The aim of this document is a presentation of the Arch process which allows a new and powerful technic for modelling behaviour on financial markets. From the seminal paper of ENGLE (1982), numerous extensions were proposed to adapt this specification of the Arch process to particular situations. These models are presented here, with adapted estimation methods and some appropriate tests.
Non-stationarity tests and nonlinear trends
1992
This paper stresses the importance of the hypothesis of linearity of the deterministic component imposed by unit root testing procedures most frequently used in empirical literature. We suggest an empirical testing strategy which reduces the risk of reaching false conclusions due to the misspecification of that component and we apply it to the analysis of the nonstationarity exhibited by real GNP in France. We show that it is possible to find someflexible specifications which enable us to reject the unit root null hypothesis otherwise strongly supported in empirical literature. These specifications might be considered as approximations of the true process generating real GNP and might be us…
Distances, espaces et représentations (une revue)
1990
Stochastic model for electrical loads in Mediterranean residential building: validation and applications
2014
A major issue in modelling the electrical load of residential building is reproducing the variability between dwellings due to the stochastic use of different electrical equipment. In that sense and with the objective to reproduce this variability, a stochastic model to obtain load profiles of household electricity is developed. The model is based on a probabilistic approach and is developed using data from the Mediterranean region of Spain. A detailed validation of the model has been done, analysing and comparing the results with Spanish and European data. The results of the validation show that the model is able to reproduce the most important features of the residential electrical consum…
Convergence in critical fuel moisture and fire weather thresholds associated with fire activity in the pyroregions of Mediterranean Europe
2021
Wildfires are becoming an increasing threat to many communities worldwide. There has been substantial progress towards understanding the proximal causes of increased fire activity in recent years at regional and national scales. However, subcontinental scale examinations of the commonalities and differences in the drivers of fire activity across different regions are rare in the Mediterranean zone of the European Union (EUMed). Here, we first develop a new classification of EUMed pyroregions, based on grouping different ecoregions with similar seasonal patterns of burned area. We then examine the thresholds associated with fire activity in response to different drivers related to fuel moist…

Comparison of high‐speed optical observations of a lightning flash from space and the ground
2020
We analyze a nighttime negative cloud-to-ground lightning flash in Colombia observed from the ground with a high-speed camera at 5,000 images per second and from space by the Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor (ASIM) on the International Space Station (ISS), the Lightning Imaging Sensor also on the ISS (ISS-LIS), and the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) on GOES-16. The space instruments measure the oxygen band at 777.4 nm, allowing for direct comparisons of measurements, and the ground-based camera observes in a wide visible band. After conversion to energy emitted at the cloud top, we find a good linear correspondence of the optical energies measured by the three space instruments, …
Evaluation of the Purity of Magnesium Hydroxide Recovered from Saltwork Bitterns
2022
Magnesium has been listed among the 30 critical raw materials by the European Union. In recent years, many green and sustainable alternative Mg2+ sources have been sought to satisfy the EU’s demand and to avoid mineral ore consumption. In this context, saltwork bitterns, the by-products of solar sea salt production, have attracted much attention thanks to their high Mg2+ concentrations (up to 80 g/L) and low Ca2+ and bicarbonate contents (<0.5 g/L). Although investigations on Mg2+ extraction from bitterns in the form of Mg(OH)2(s) have already been performed, product purity has never been properly addressed. Mg(OH)2(s) is a chemical compound of great interest and extensive utility in num…
Deciphering Biotic Interactions and Their Role in Soil Microbial Community Assembly and Functions
2022
Microbial communities play a key role in ecosystem functioning as well as in plant, animal, and human welfare. Their assembly relies on different processes commonly referred to as abiotic and biotic filters. Despite the widespread emphasis on abiotic filters in terrestrial ecosystems, a growing body of evidence suggests that interactions between microorganisms play a critical role in community assembly. However, the contribution of these interactions to microbial community assembly and the factors influencing them have not been clearly established. In most cases, biotic interactions between microorganisms have been investigated based on cocultures of a handful of strains, completely overloo…
