Use of decellularized tracheas for airways engineering

Background/Objective: Tracheal stenosis produces serious dyspnea. In some cases, a defective correction or timely intervention can lead to the death of the patient. The Hospital Clinico Universitario de Valencia is a reference hospital for the treatment of patients with airway problems exhibiting complex tracheal stenosis. Surgery is limited to a maximum length of 6-7 cm and it is not exempt of mortality (3-5%). The heart is a perfect machine whose mass is mainly composed of cardiomyocytes, but also fibroblasts, endothelial, smooth muscle, nervous, and immune cells are represented.
