Protein phosphorylation is induced in tobacco cells by the elicitor cryptogein

1994

Changes in plasmalemma ion fluxes were observed when tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) cells were treated with cryptogein, a proteinaceous elicitor from Phytophthora cryptogea. A strong alkalization of the culture medium, accompanied by a leakage of potassium, was induced within a few minutes of treatment. These effects reached a maximum after 30 to 40 min and lasted for several hours. This treatment also resulted in a rapid, but transient, production of activated oxygen species. All these physiological responses were fully sensitive to staurosporine, a known protein kinase inhibitor. Furthermore, a study of protein phosphorylation showed that cryptogein induced a staurosporine-sensitive phosphor…

Impact of fabric end-use knowledge on handle perception

2006

Abstract The objective was to determine whether the knowledge of the fabrics' end-use may impact the way textile experts organize their haptic perception. Two groups of 10 textile experts were asked to freely sort the same set of 25 fabrics in two different contexts. The first group was informed that the set of fabrics would be used to make dresses and the other one that they would be used to make sportswear. Both groups also rated the appropriateness of each fabrics for each end-use. Results did not show any effect of the end-use context. The two perceptual spaces were basically the same and accounted for appropriateness of use similarly. If confirmed, this result indicates that descriptiv…

Original strain energy density functions for modeling of anisotropic soft biological tissue

2017

This thesis has focused on the construction of strain energy densities for describing the non-linear behavior of anisotropic materials such as biological soft tissues (ligaments, tendons, arterial walls, etc.) or fiber-reinforced rubbers. The densities we have proposed have been developed with the mathematical theory of invariant polynomials, particularly the Noether theorem and the Reynolds operator. Our work involved two types of anisotropic materials, the first with a single fiber family and the second with a four-fiber family. The concept of polyconvexity has also been studied because it is well known that it plays an important role for ensuring the existence of solutions. In the case o…

Modélisation numérique d’impacts à hautes vitesses par la méthode sans maillage Smoothed Particles Hydrodynamics. Application aux micro-impacts dans …

2021

Investigations on the ballistic behaviours of soft tissue materials are significant research in a medical and pharmaceutical framework. They mainly focus on particles penetrating or traveling into the soft materials. For instance, in the needle-free drug delivery, the micro-scale particles as drug powders are injected into skin with high velocity, and several factors should be considered such as the particle diameters, trajectories, and momentum or velocities of projectile in this process. There have been investigated by some experiments, but there is still no study from the numerical insights. The numerical methods are suitable to study these kinds of processes. Although grid-based methods …

Contribution to the investigation of dynamic responses of human tissues under high velocity impacts using finite element modeling

2022

Thoracic injuries happen frequently in various frameworks of high velocity impact biomechanics. Rib fractures and lung injuries are the most common hard and soft tissue injuries in human thorax. This thesis aims to contribute to the investigation of dynamic responses of human tissues especially ribs and soft tissues under high velocity impacts using finite element modeling. Firstly, a novel strain-rate-dependent elasto-hydrodynamic constitutive law of the synthetic polymer Styrene-Ethylene-Butylene-Styrene (SEBS) gel was proposed and implemented as a user material subroutine in Radioss (Altair Hyperworks) to interpret dynamic behaviors of SEBS gel under various loading configurations. Numer…

Lipid and homeostatic alterations in nervous tissues associated with aging and metabolic dysregulations: implication of gut microbiota and autophagy

2020

The retina and the brain are two nervous tissues rich in lipids. Aging and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are associated with functional and physiological alterations of these tissues as well as modifications in the composition of the gut microbiota. The global objective of this thesis work is to understand the lipid and homeostatic alterations in aging and MetS contexts in the retina and the brain. In a first study, we evaluated the impact of the modifications in the composition of the gut microbiota associated with aging on the lipid/fatty acid contents of the liver and the brain (cortex). We showed that colonization of germ-free mice with the gut microbiota of old mice modulated the hepatic e…
