Vocational teachers’ pathways in the course of a curriculum reform

Teachers face continuous changes, many of which significantly influence their professional identities and work practices. This study investigates Finnish vocational teachers’ pathways in the course of a curriculum reform. The data were obtained by interviewing 14 vocational teachers twice, i.e. at the initial and later stages of the reform. This study used a narrative approach to analyse the interviews as whole and also to illustrate variations between teachers. Background: In the Need-Adapted approach (NAA) therapy meetings are a deliberate effort to bring all meaningful parties and views to a common discussion prior to decisions; this constitutes a challenge for psychiatrists’ agency. Aims: To describe how psychiatrists see their agency in NAA. Methods: Using videos of co-research interviews, stimulated-recall interviews of 10 interviewees were conducted and transcribed verbatim. Due to the deterioration of cognitive capacity and language skills, they may be unable to convey their thoughts and care preferences to other people. As a result, their agency may become restricted. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tuottaa tietoa siitä, millaisia nuorten aikuisten miesten kokemukset varusmiespalveluksesta ovat. Lisäksi haluttiin selvittää, miten nuoret aikuiset miehet kokivat mieheyden palvelusaikanaan. Näitä kokemuksia tarkasteltiin teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä osana yksilön toimijuuden muovautumista. Tutkimukseen osallistujat olivat 1-3 vuotta sitten varusmiespalveluksen päättäneitä, johtajakoulutuksen käyneitä nuoria aikuisia miehiä. Tutkimusaineisto hankittiin teemahaastatteluin. Ammatillisten oppilaitosten toimintaympäristö on muutoksessa, joka näkyy jokaisen alan organisaation ja yksittäisen opettajan työssä. Krooninen väsymysoireyhtymä (ME/CFS [myalgic encephalomyelitis/ chronic fatigue syndrome]; G93.3) on pitkäkestoinen, harvinainen ja vaikeasti diagnosoitava sairaus, jolle on tyypillistä voimakas pitkäaikainen väsymys, joka ei selity millään muulla fyysisellä tai psykiatrisella sairaudella.
