Integrated initial and continuing training as a way of developing the professional agency of teachers and student teachers

In this paper, we discuss training aimed at supporting the professional agency of teachers and student teachers. Drawing on socio-cultural and post-structural theories, we conceptualize professional agency as achieved by participation in professional practices. We employ our conceptualization in an analysis of a Finnish pilot training that combined initial and continuous training for preschool and primary school teachers. We argue that the practices of reflection and collective enquiry inherent in the model offer a fruitful starting point for further efforts to understand how to support the development of the professional agency of teachers and student teachers simultaneously. peerReviewed

This dissertation and the four separate articles contained therein examine Finnish pastors as builders of the Swedish state from the 1550s to the 1610s. The subject is studied from three perspectives. First, the relationship between the crown and the church (and the pastors) is explored. Second, the study investigates the relationship between the pastors and local communities. The third aspect connects the first two as it sheds light on the pastors’ role as intermediators between local communities and the crown. Lahden Salpausselällä on pitkät perinteet pohjoismaisten hiihtolajien kilpailuareenana. Pohjoismaisten hiihtolajien MM-kilpailut on järjestetty siellä yhteensä seitsemän kertaa seitsemällä eri vuosikymmenellä. Lisäksi Lahdessa on kilpailtu vuosittain pohjoismaisten hiihtolajien maailmancupin osakilpailut, Salpausselän kisat. Kumpaakaan näistä tapahtumista ei oltaisi voitu järjestää vuosien saatossa ilman sitoutuneiden ja kokeneiden vapaaehtoisten joukkoa.
