PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE ERA OF AUTOMATISATION AND SHARING ECONOMY

2019

Background. Over half of the world's population lives in urbanized areas, cities emit over 75 % of global greenhouse gases [1]. One of the sources of pollution is transport. Therefore, striving for the development of sustainable transport systems in cities is crucial. Observing global trends in mobility allows noting the development of economy, automation and electrification of the automobile. These tendencies seem to have enormous potential to improve the functioning of transport systems and to maximize economic and environmental effects. Therefore, the aim of this article is to identify the benefits of using low-carbon autonomous vehicles, to spread the sharing mobility and to identify po…

Multicenter Consistency Assessment of Valvular Flow Quantification With Automated Valve Tracking in 4D Flow CMR

2021

OBJECTIVES This study determined: 1) the interobserver agreement; 2) valvular flow variation; and 3) which variables independently predicted the variation of valvular flow quantification from 4-dimensional (4D) flow cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) with automated retrospective valve tracking at multiple sites. BACKGROUND Automated retrospective valve tracking in 4D flow CMR allows consistent assessment of valvular flow through all intracardiac valves. However, due to the variance of CMR scanners and protocols, it remains uncertain if the published consistency holds for other clinical centers. METHODS Seven sites each retrospectively or prospectively selected 20 subjects who underwent whole …

Acceptance test-driven development

2011

Acceptance Test-Driven Development (ATDD) is meant to bring customers, engineers, testers and software developers together and help them understand each other. ATDD is not an automatic testing technique but rather a precise requirement management and software development convention, which helps to avoid misunderstandings between stakeholders and leads to production of program code satisfying only the real requirements making it more simple and clear. Conclusions about benefits and common problems emerging during adoption of ATDD are based on results of a software project which took place while this work was being written. They also concur very well with other case studies. A large framework…

Machine learning for land use change analysis and modelling.

2019

Urban development can take different forms or features, depending on its geographical location and its socioeconomic, political and cultural context. Nevertheless, the overall action relies on one fundamental principle: building construction in order to give people housing. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to determine whether an underlying universal aspect of the urban development process can be distinguished from a specific one, being the reflect of local specificities. Specifically, this research analyzes the land use change on the French-German cross-border area. Indeed, the border context enhances the difference within this territory. Nonetheless, the internal European…

Three-dimensional object detection under arbitrary lighting conditions

2006

A novel method of 3D object recognition independent of lighting conditions is presented. The recognition model is based on a vector space representation using an orthonormal basis generated by the Lambertian reflectance functions obtained with distant light sources. Changing the lighting conditions corresponds to multiplying the elementary images by a constant factor and because of that, all possible lighting views will be elements that belong to that vector space. The recognition method proposed is based on the calculation of the angle between the vector associated with a certain illuminated 3D object and that subspace. We define the angle in terms of linear correlations to get shift and i…

The Computer Control Software for MAMI

1980

The computer control system of the Mainz Microtron is designed to keep track with the modular and step-by-step construction of the three accelerator stages. The system is up to now based on two loosely coupled HP1000 minicomputers, interfaced via CAMAC to the accelerator components and to the operator desk. The control software is divided into several layers of portable processes distributed to both computers. Communication between the processes, access to the data bank and the routing of CAMAC interrupts are handled via a message system which operates with symbolic addresses.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls in Sediments from Sicilian Coastal Area (Scoglitti) using Automated Soxhlet, GC-MS, and Principal Component Analysis

2014

A methodology for the PAHs and PCBs congener determination in sediment samples has been revised. We determined the distributions of PAHs and PCBs in the superficial sediments of the Scoglitti (Italy) coastal area to provide data for comparison with other marine systems and to hypothesize the sources. Extraction yield, for PCB, was never less than 60% in most cases, while for PAHs, utilizing perdeuterated surrogate standard (benz[a]anthracene-d12 and anthracene-d10) was never less than 72%. The total concentration of the 16 PAHs investigated, expressed as the sum of concentrations, PAHs, varied from 1–5087 μg/kg of dry matrix, while the PCBs ranged from detection limit to 36 μg/kg of dry mat…

Stroke Cognitive Medical Assistant (StrokeCMA)

2018

Stroke is the number two killer after heart disease since it is responsible for almost 10% of all deaths worldwide. The main problem with a stroke is a significant delay in treatment that happened mainly due to inappropriate detection of stroke symptoms or inability of a person to perform further necessary actions, and might cause death, permanent disabilities, as well as more expensive treatment and rehabilitation. Nowadays assessment of a stroke is done by human, following widely adopted FAST approach of stroke assessment. Since a human factor become one of the causes of treatment delay, offered solution will try to minimize this factor. Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Computing, Machi…

Computational music analysis: from audio transcription to structural and stylistic analyses, everything is tightly intertwined

2012

The aim of this research is to conceive a comprehensive computational model for automated music analysis where a large range of analytical and cognitive rules are combined and the interdependencies observed. Besides the purely scientific interest of a cognitive modeling, this should facilitate the development of tools for computer-aided musicology and interfaces for augmented music listening and discovery. On the structural level, beyond a strict vision based on hierarchical segmentation, a concept of prolongational syntagmatic network is introduced, characterized by general rules and culture-dependent modal specifications. This model explains the syntagmatic role of ornamentation and allow…
