A large ameloblastic fibro-odontoma of the right mandible

2007

The ameloblastic fibro-odontoma is a rare mixed odontogenic tumor. It occurs predominantly in children and young adults with no sex predilection and locates most often in the posterior segment of the mandible. A painless swelling is the most common clinical sign. Radiologically, ameloblastic fibro-odontoma shows a circumscribed radiolucency, which contains radio-opaque foci of various sizes and shapes. Histological examination reveals a fibrous soft tissue, islands of odontogenic epithelium and a disordered mixture of dental tissues. The tumor produces enamel or enamel matrix, dentin and cementum. The treatment of ameloblastic fibro-odontomas usually consists of enucleation or surgical cure…

Oral manifestations of Cowden?s disease : presentation of a clinical case

2006

Cowden?s disease, or multiple hamartoma syndrome, is an autosomal dominant genodermatosis, characterized by the presence of multiple cutaneous hamartomas, oral fibromas and benign acral keratosis. It affects multiple organs (breast, thyroids, stomach, colon), with the strong possibility of malignant neoplasia developing in these organs. We present a case of this rare syndrome, highlighting the presentation of some clinical characteristics that, in suspected cases, can help to establish an early diagnosis of this disease, this being of great importance given the high frequency of tumors in people with this clinical picture.

Gastroesophageal reflux diagnosed by occlusal splint tintion

2006

The gastroesophageal reflux (GER) disease is a very frequent digestive disorder, mainly characterised by the reflux of the gastric acidic content to the esophage in abnormal quantities. There are different situations that favour this situation but almost in all of them rely an incompetence of the esophagic sphincter. The clinical consequences are many, including oral manifestations. Among all of them the most frequent is the esophagitis followed by symptoms at the pharynx or larynx and finally, the oral cavity. At this level fundamentally we will find enamel and oral mucosa erosions. We report the case of a patient who was indirectly diagnosed of her esophague disease by the observation of …
