Creative reconstructions of poitical imagery in an Instagram-based election campaign: Implications for visual rhetorical literacy

This article reviews literature on visual rhetoric in political campaigning and synthesizes several strands of current research devoted to the rhetorical potential of communicating with visuals in online environments. It uses rhetorical concepts of identification and manoeuvring, as well as the category of topos, to discuss the implications of an abductive analysis of a coded corpus of 1976 Instagram images posted during 2019 election to the European Parliament campaign in Poland. The Semantics of Musical Topoi : An Empirical Approach

THE ARTICLE INTRODUCES AN EMPIRICAL APPROACH to studying music’s extrinsic meanings, based on the idea of musical topos as a set of musical entities that is delimited and furnished with meaning by extramusical associations in a listener population. The proposed methodology involves free, associative responses as well as responses on semantic variables addressing the imagery. Three three-letter words in three recent novels in three different languages: God, sex and joy

In this article, the authors propose to analyse the ways in which religion and sexuality are related to one another in three recent novels: (1) Fransi Phillips�s Die donker god (2007), (2) Inga �olude�s Santa Biblia (2013) and (3) Michel Houellebecq�s Soumission [English translation: Submission] (2015). In each case, the novels are briefly placed within their respective literary cultures (Afrikaans, Latvian and French) in order to offer a contextually sensitive analysis.
