Predictors of changing patterns of adherence to containment measures during the early stage of COVID-19 pandemic: an international longitudinal study
2023
Abstract Background Identifying common factors that affect public adherence to COVID-19 containment measures can directly inform the development of official public health communication strategies. The present international longitudinal study aimed to examine whether prosociality, together with other theoretically derived motivating factors (self-efficacy, perceived susceptibility and severity of COVID-19, perceived social support) predict the change in adherence to COVID-19 containment strategies. Method In wave 1 of data collection, adults from eight geographical regions completed online surveys beginning in April 2020, and wave 2 began in June and ended in September 2020. Hypothesized pre…
Matalavalvontatutkan kehitysprojekti 1966–1985 : kansallinen menestystarina
2019
Matalavalvontatutkaprojekti (MVT) muodosti kokonaisuuden, jossa kehitettiin kotimaisin voimin valvonta- ja korkeudenmittaustutka, maalitietojen esitys- ja taistelunjohtolaitteistoja, viestijärjestelmiä, tutka-asemien rakenteita sekä huoltojärjestelmä. nonPeerReviewed
Friendship Moderates Prospective Associations Between Social Isolation and Adjustment Problems in Young Children
2007
This longitudinal study investigated prospective links between social isolation and adjustment problems among 166 (77 girls, 89 boys) Finnish children ages 7 to 9. Peer nominations for social engagement and self‐reports of internalizing and externalizing problems were collected in the spring of the 1st and 2nd grade. Friendship moderated prospective associations between peer and adjustment variables. Among friended children, there were no prospective associations between social isolation and either internalizing or externalizing problems. Among unfriended children, initial social isolation was positively linked to subsequent increases in internalizing and externalizing problems, and initial…
Polyphenols Epigallocatechin Gallate and Resveratrol, and Polyphenol-Functionalized Nanoparticles Prevent Enterovirus Infection through Clustering an…
2021
To efficiently lower virus infectivity and combat virus epidemics or pandemics, it is important to discover broadly acting antivirals. Here, we investigated two naturally occurring polyphenols, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and Resveratrol (RES), and polyphenol-functionalized nanoparticles for their antiviral efficacy. Concentrations in the low micromolar range permanently inhibited the infectivity of high doses of enteroviruses (107 PFU/mL). Sucrose gradient separation of radiolabeled viruses, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopic imaging and an in-house developed real-time fluorescence assay revealed that polyphenols prevented infection mainly through clustering of…
Natural enemies emerging in cereal fields in spring may contribute to biological control
2022
1.Biological pest control is known to depend on landscape heterogeneity. However, such relationship shows irregular pattern and seems influenced by local farming practices and natural enemies that overwinter within crop fields. The objective of this study was to assess the contribution of emerging natural enemies in spring to biological control, and their response to the interaction between landscape heterogeneity and farming intensity. 2.We monitored the overwintering insect community using emergence traps and measured the local potential pest predation using prey cards in 30 cereal fields, in spring in France. Study fields were selected along a landscape heterogeneity gradient and farming…
Vertaissuhdevaikeudet, kielelliset taidot ja lukemaan ja kirjoittamaan oppiminen
2011
Environmental remediation using nanomaterial as adsorbents for emerging micropollutants
2023
Water shortage and scarcity are issues of global concern. Water pollution caused by organic micropollutants further aggravates the problem, by rendering an already scarce resource unfit for human consumption. The existing conventional wastewater treatment methods and infrastructure were not designed to eliminate micropollutants. Therefore, their inefficiencies call for modern methods for removing emerging micropollutant residues such as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDCs), personal care products and pesticides. The use of nanomaterials, for the abatement of micropollutants in water is gaining traction in recent years, due to the abundance of susta…
Glyphosate residues alter the microbiota of a perennial weed with a minimal indirect impact on plant performance
2021
Abstract Purpose In cold climates, glyphosate residues may linger in soils, with effects on plant–microbe interactions and, consequently, plant performance. Here, we explore the influence of glyphosate residues on the endophytic microbiota (bacteria and fungi) and performance of the perennial nitrogen-fixing weed Lupinus polyphyllus. Methods In a common garden, we grew plants from six populations of L. polyphyllus in glyphosate-treated or untreated control soils, with or without additional phosphorus. We sampled plant microbiota (leaves, roots, nodules) and assessed plant performance based on six traits: height, retrogression probability (i.e. shrinkage), biomass, root:shoot ratio, nodule n…
An anomaly intrusion detection system based on Intelligent user recognition
2002
Recently computer systems have become a critical part of network-connected system, possessing essential economic and human values to individuals and organizations. This key role of the systems has increased the requirements for their protection. They have to be more resistant against malicious activities. Intrusion detection is aimed at detecting and preventing such activities. It forms the last line of defence in the overall protection scheme of a computer system. It is useful not only in detecting successful breaches of security, but also for monitoring attempts to breach security, which provides important information for timely countermeasures. Thus, intrusion detection systems are usefu…
Melun määrä ja vaikutukset musiikinopettajan työssä
2012
