Kristiinankaupungissa tapahtui 14. tammikuuta vuonna 1859 kaupungin historian ainoa kaupunkipalo, viitaten vähintään korttelin laajuiseen aluepaloon, joka on lisäksi levinnyt kadun yli viereiseen kortteliin. Kauppias Engbergin ulkorakennuksesta alkanut kaupunkipalo oli kuitenkin laajuudeltaan merkittävästi useita aikalaispaloja pienempi: paloalue kattoi kaikkiaan 23 tonttia, joista tuhoutuneiksi voidaan laskea 12–14. Tässä tutkimuksessa pureudutaan Kristiinankaupungin palontorjunnan edellytyksiin tämän kaupungin historiassa poikkeuksellisen onnettomuuden välityksellä. However, such relationship shows irregular pattern and seems influenced by local farming practices and natural enemies that overwinter within crop fields. The present thesis introduces several ultrasound-assisted digestion methods developed for the determination of toxic element concentrations in ash samples by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Ultrasound-assisted digestion is a quite new technique used for sample pre-treatment purposes, especially in difficult sample matrixes. Elements determined are As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Sr, V, and Zn. Most of the elements determined exist at a trace or ultra trace level in ashes and most are potential risks in the environment or human body even at low concentrations. The research described in this disseration covers the crystal form screening of two analogous agrochemical actives, thiophanate-methyl and thiophanate-ethyl, as well as the discovery of seven 4-hydroxybenzoic acid cocrystals of selected agrochemical actives. Polymorphs are crystal forms of a compound that have the same composition, but a different arrangement of molecules. Cocrystals are molecular crystals composed of two or more compounds, and refer mainly to crystals which contain compounds that are solids at standard conditions. This dissertation considers numerical methods for wave propagation modelling and noise control. The first part of the dissertation discusses an efficient method for solving time-harmonic wave equations in acoustic (the Helmholtz equation) and elastic domains (the Navier equation). The solver is based on preconditioning a Krylov subspace method, such as GMRES, with approximations of damped variants of the corresponding wave equations. Multi-objective actuator placement optimization for local sound control evaluated in a stochastic domain

A method to find optimal locations and properties of anti-noise actuators in local noise control system is considered. The local noise control performance is approximated by a finite element method based approach, that attempts to estimate the average performance of optimal active noise control (ANC) system. The local noise control uses a fixed number of circular actuators that are located on the boundary of a three-dimensional enclosed acoustic space. Actuator signals are used to minimize the known harmonic noise at specified locations.
