Counterion-mediated attraction and kinks on loops of semiflexible polyelectrolyte bundles.

The formation of kinks in a loop of bundled polyelectrolyte filaments is analyzed in terms of the thermal fluctuations of charge density due to polyvalent counterions adsorbed on the polyelectrolyte filaments. It is found that the counterion-mediated attraction energy of filaments depends on their bending. By consideration of curvature elasticity energy and counterion-mediated attraction between polyelectrolyte filaments, the characteristic width of the kink and the number of kinks per loop is found to be in reasonable agreement with existing experimental data for rings of bundled actin filaments.

We developed a simple mean-field theory to describe polymer and AB diblock copolymer phase separation in supercritical (SC) fluids. The highly compressible SC fluid has been described by using a phenomenological hole theory, properly extended to consider the solvent/polymer/vacancy pseudoternary mixture. The model has been applied to describe the phase behavior of AB-diblock copolymers under the assumption of a strong solvent selectivity for just one copolymer chain. Separation of lanthanides and actinides using magnetic silica particles bearing covalently attached tetra-CMPO-calix[4]arenes

Calix[4]arene tetraethers in the cone conformation bearing four –NH–CO–CH2–P(O)Ph2 (= CMPO) residues on their wide rim and one, two or four ω-amino alkyl residues of various lengths at the narrow rim were synthesized. Reaction with dichlorotriazinyl (DCT) functionalized magnetic particles led to complete coverage of the available surface by covalently linked CMPO-calix[4]arenes in all cases. AN ENZYME-ENHANCED EXTRACTION OF ANTHOCYANINS FROM RED CABBAGE AND THEIR THERMAL DEGRADATION KINETICS

There is a great demand for developing efficient anthocyanins extraction related to each plant material. Conventional methods have been replaced by novel techniques, but they might remain attractive when combined with the latter. Anthocyanins extraction from fresh and dried red cabbage was investigated by maceration, ultrasonication, and with enzymes. Pre-treatments through drying determined an improved extraction with respect to fresh samples, freeze-drying emerging as the best method. Study of silica-structured materials as sorbents for organophosphorus pesticides determination in environmental water samples

Abstract A novel sorbent based on a UVM-7 mesoporous silica doped with Ti has been synthesized and used for solid-phase extraction of several organophosphorus pesticides in environmental water samples followed by gas chromatography coupled to a nitrogen-phosphorus selective detector. Thus, mesoporous silica materials doped with Ti and Fe as well as immobilized cyclodextrin silica-based supports were prepared and morphologically characterized by several techniques such as transmission electronic microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and X-ray diffraction. Legumes contain a rich variety of phytochemicals as soyasaponins, triterpenoidal glycosides that possess multiple health-promoting properties, such as lowering of cholesterol. In this work, the quantification of soyasaponins I and βg in 60 raw and cooked legumes by using a solid phase extraction (SPE) coupled to a liquid chromatography (LC)-mass spectrometry (MS) method was carried out. Results showed that lentils are a good source of soyasaponins, with a content of soyasaponin I that ranged from 636 to 735 mg kg(-1) and of soyasaponin βg from 672 to 1807 mg kg(-1). Reaction of lithium enediolates with perfluoroketene dithioacetals. Synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl γ-dicarboxylic acid derivatives

The reaction of perfluoroketene dithioacetals with dianions of carboxylic acids proceeds through the substitution of the vinylic fluoride. The preparative value of this reaction depends strongly on the reaction and work-up conditions, the optimisation of which led to use LDA as a base and multiple extraction techniques. The overall process may be considered as a formal synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl γ-dicarboxylic acid derivatives.

Extraction of amino acids with emulsion liquid membranes using industrial surfactants and lecithin as stabilisers

Abstract Industrial surfactants (being the mixtures of several individual compounds) were used as stabilisers of emulsion liquid membranes (ELMs). Although, some impurities present in technical formulations of these compounds were extracted to aqueous solutions of amino acids, most of the used surfactants well served to this purpose.
