Analysis of the road traffic management system in the neural network development perspective
2019
The research goal of the paper is to present the issues connected with road traffic management systems and to illustrate a management system that uses Intelligent Transportation Systems and neural networks. The use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is a method of improving the conditions of communications, making it independent from the development of communications infrastructure. The attributes of neural networks are focused on solving the problems of optimisation, which involve the development of optimal strategies for traffic management. The proposed road traffic management system that uses ITS and neural networks can be applied in prediction of the conditions of communication…
A Rule-Based Multi-agent System for Road Traffic Management
2009
Road Traffic presents a high dynamism which makes necessary the development of traffic management and control strategies to improve traffic flows and more important, road safety. This dynamism makes necessary the use of intelligent systems to support traffic organizations and road operators to cope with incidents. In this paper we introduce a new expert system to support traffic management when weather problems occur in the road network. The system uses multiagent technology to work with the specific characteristics of traffic domain and is able to work in two modes: a) coordinately, where all the agents works to solve problems in large networks and b) locally where due to communications pr…
An empirically grounded agent based simulator for the air traffic management in the SESAR scenario
2017
In this paper we present a simulator allowing to perform policy experiments relative to the air traffic management. Different SESAR solutions can be implemented in the model to see the reaction of the different stakeholders as well as other relevant metrics (delay, safety, etc). The model describes both the strategic phase associated to the planning of the flight trajectories and the tactical modifications occurring in the en-route phase. An implementation of the model is available as an open-source software and is freely accessible by any user. More specifically, different procedures related to business trajectories and free-routing are tested and we illustrate the capabilities of the mode…
Deploying harmonized ITS services in the framework of EasyWay project
2012
In the last decade, the use of new technologies in the transportation domain has made possible the development of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). However, the ITS services were deployed isolated. The purpose of the EasyWay Project is to involve all the European countries to deploy harmonized ITS services taking into account the European citizen as final In this paper, an introduction of EasyWay project is done, including the ITS concept services and the Deployment Guidelines. A deployment guideline for traffic management and corridors is presented. Using this guideline, a real Spanish Traffic management Plan is analyzed.
A scalable platform for safe and secure decentralized traffic management of multiagent mobile systems
2006
In this paper we describe the application of wireless sensor networking techniques to address the realization of a safe and secure decentralized traffic management system. We consider systems of many heterogeneous autonomous vehicles moving in a shared environment. Each vehicle is assumed to have different and possibly unspecified tasks, but they cooperate to avoid collisions. We are interested in designing a scalable architecture capable of accommodating a very large and dynamically changing number of vehicles, guaranteeing their safety, the achievement of their goals, and security against potential adversaries. By properly distributing and revoking cryptographic keys we are able to protec…

Valuing Freight Transport Time using Transport Demand Modelling: A Bibliographical Review
2011
The value of time for freight transport is of major importance in infrastructure-related cost–benefit analysis and yet its study has been largely neglected when compared with its passenger counterpart. In fact, one of the attributes that could decide the profitability of a project is how much can be saved if freight vehicles use new infrastructure. Despite being the primary benefit of most investments in transport infrastructure, researchers have not yet reached agreement over either the size or the nature of the values of time that should be used when evaluating projects. This article provides a review of the estimation of freight value of time through transport demand modelling and extant…
Development of International Freight Transit in Latvia
2013
Abstract International freight transit is transportation of goods through third countries which are neither senders or consumers of the transported freight. International freight transit provides the use of transport infrastructure capacities and the development of transport infrastructure in Latvia, especially in seaports and railways. In Latvia approximately 97% of all transported freight carried by railway is international freight transit. The turnover of Latvia's seaports is approximately 90% international freight transit transport. This paper describes comparative position of Latvia in Logistics Performance Index and assesses international competitiveness of Latvia's international frei…
Statistical Regularities in ATM: network properties, trajectory deviations and delays
2012
One of the key enabler to the productivity and efficiency shift foreseen by SESAR will be the business-trajectory concept. The path to a deep understanding of how this new concept impacts on the future SESAR Air Traffic Management scenario goes through a better understanding of the actual air traffic network, and this will be done in the present paper by analyzing traffic data within the framework of complex network analysis. In this paper we will consider flights trajectory data from the Data Demand Repository database. In a first investigation, we perform a network study of the air traffic infrastructure starting from the airports and then refining our analysis at the level of navigation …
The airport as edge city : the case of Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport
2005
International audience; Most of the recent research about airports has considered them in their role as points within airline networks, and the focus has been generally on hub airports. But airports are also places offering many similarities with cities, particularly with edge cities. They are places of human diversity and job centers for surrounding areas. Traffic jams are common on ground facilities as they are on taxiways, runways and airways. Often divided in specialized districts, such as cargo warehousing, hotel rows, rental car parking lots or office clusters, they are also urban organisms exerting strong demands on the local environment. In the post 9-11era, their importance for econ…
