Canonical Perturbation Theory with Several Degrees of Freedom

2001

We extend the perturbation theory of the previous chapter by going one order further and permitting several degrees of freedom. So let the unperturbed problem H0(J k 0) be solved.

Analytic high-order Douglas–Kroll–Hess electric field gradients

2007

In this work we present a comprehensive study of analytical electric field gradients in hydrogen halides calculated within the high-order Douglas-Kroll-Hess (DKH) scalar-relativistic approach taking picture-change effects analytically into account. We demonstrate the technical feasibility and reliability of a high-order DKH unitary transformation for the property integrals. The convergence behavior of the DKH property expansion is discussed close to the basis set limit and conditions ensuring picture-change-corrected results are determined. Numerical results are presented, which show that the DKH property expansion converges rapidly toward the reference values provided by four-component met…

Some contributions to the theory of transformation monoids

2019

The aim of this paper is to present some contributions to the theory of finite transformation monoids. The dominating influence that permutation groups have on transformation monoids is used to describe and characterise transitive transformation monoids and primitive transitive transformation monoids. We develop a theory that not only includes the analogs of several important theorems of the classical theory of permutation groups but also contains substantial information about the algebraic structure of the transformation monoids. Open questions naturally arising from the substantial paper of Steinberg [A theory of transformation monoids: combinatorics and representation theory. Electron. J…

Therapeutic implications of Cancer Initiating Cells.

2009

Background: Until few years ago, all neoplastic cells within a tumour were suggested to have tumorigenic capacity, but recent evidences hint to the possibility that such feature is confined to a subset of Cancer Initiating Cells (CICs), also called Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs). These cells are the reservoir of the heterogeneous populations of differentiated cancer cells constituting the tumour bulk. Mechanisms shared with somatic stem cells, such as quiescence, self-renewal ability, asymmetric division and multidrug resistance, allow to these cells to drive tumour growth and to evade conventional therapy. Objective: Here, we give a brief overview on the origin of CICs, the mechanisms involved i…

Coesione, trasformazione e riuso creativo dello spazio abitativo: un caso di studio sostenibile nel territorio siciliano

2015

Cohesion, reuse and transformation are key concepts of the project of sustainable regeneration of the built environment. They are also essential for the development and control of territory. In a perspective of sustainable regeneration also the transformation and reuse "creative" of depressed urban areas and abandoned buildings, are crucial for the protection of the environment and against the land consumption. For many years the sustainable regeneration is a key concept of Community policies: "It is imperative to reuse urban areas unused, derelict or contaminated. Today these urban areas are in excess of any other period of the industrial urban history. The reuse of land and abandoned buil…

Decreased temperature increases the expression of a disordered bacterial late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) protein that enhances natural transformati…

2021

Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins are important players in the management of responses to stressful conditions, such as drought, high salinity, and changes in temperature. Many LEA proteins do not have defined three-dimensional structures, so they are intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and are often highly hydrophilic. Although LEA-like sequences have been identified in bacterial genomes, the functions of bacterial LEA proteins have been studied only recently. Sequence analysis of outer membrane interleukin receptor I (BilRI) from the oral pathogen Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans indicated that it shared sequence similarity with group 3/3b/4 LEA proteins. Comprehensive …

Distributed pedagogical leadership in support of student transitions

2012

This article examines how, through uncovering collaborative leadership, the whole school staff is able to understand its common endeavours to support heterogeneous students’ fluent learning paths. For this, a notion of distributed pedagogical leadership (DPL) is drawn upon. DPL concerns everyone in the school community, not only leaders and management. It means abandoning role, instrumental or process centricity and moving towards leadership that is characterized as the innermost qualities of a professional learning community. This kind of leadership is best described with 10 ‘keys’ as 10 key attributes. To understand DPL in practice, quantitative data both from a nationwide Finnish survey…

Search for supersymmetry in events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least one tau lepton in 7 TeV proton-proton collision data wi…

2012

A search for supersymmetry (SUSY) in events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least one hadronically decaying τ lepton, with zero or one additional light lepton (e/μ), has been performed using 4.7 fb[superscript −1] of proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed and a 95 % confidence level visible cross-sectionupper limit for new phenomena is set. In the framework of gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking models, lower limits on the mass scale Λ are set at 54 TeV in the regions where the [bar over τ]1 is the next-to-lightest SUSY particle (tanβ > 20). …

Prospective Comparison of Loop Excision under Colposcopic Guidance versus Vitom Guidance.

2012

Background: Aim of the study was to compare the quality of loop excision using a colposcope with results using the VITOM system. Results compared included cervical volume removed, intra- and postoperative complications, and positive resection margins. Methods: A total of 200 patients with histologically confirmed high-grade cervical premalignant lesions, persistent atypical cytological results and/or suspicious colposcopic findings, and cytological and histological discrepancies were included in the study. In transformation zone type 1 (T1) only a superficial cone biopsy was done, in zones type 2 and 3 (T2 and T3) a superficial outside cone biopsy or a deeper inside cone biopsy were done re…
