Abstract Mild hydrocracking composite catalysts based on NiMo/γ-Al2O3-Beta zeolite have been prepared and the influence of the location of the NiMo phases has been studied. A good hydrocracking activity and the highest HDS conversion was found during the hydrocracking of a vacuum gasoil with the composite catalyst where the NiMo is located on the alumina component and then mixed with the zeolite in a proportion of 1 : 1 by weight. The crystal size of the beta zeolite had a significative influence on the catalytic behaviour, being better the smaller the crystallite size is. Adhesion trends and growth mode of ultra-thin copper films on MgO

Ab initio simulations are performed for Cu atoms adsorbed on the perfect MgO(001) substrate, with an ordered metal coverage varied from 1 monolayer (ML), i.e. almost single atoms, up t o1M L. As trong dependence of the adhesion energy and the sub-monolayer film distance from the substrate on the surface coverage and adsorbate positions (Mg 2+ or O 2− )i s discussed. We present results of ab initio band structure calculations on some ABO2 delafossite oxides that have both the A and B sites occupied by transition metals. This class of materials includes insulators as well as some of the most conducting oxides. The calculations have been performed in order to understand the nature of the metallic and insulating states and the extensive metal−metal bonding displayed by these materials. The effect of polytypism on the electronic structure is examined. Oxygen on Fe(100) and Fe(110)

Investigations of the electronic and magnetic properties of oxygen adsorbed on magnetized iron films have been carried out by means of angle and spin resolving photoelectron spectroscopy. Iron, epitaxially grown on W(100) and W(110) crystals, served as the ferromagnetic substrate. Exchange splittings of the O 2px derived level have been detected, demonstrating a magnetic coupling between the chemisorbate and the iron layer. Variations of the exchange splitting have occurred as a function of the oxygen coverage, photon energy, and emission angle. High oxygen exposures have lead to a FeO overlayer at the surface.

Reactivity between molybdenum and TiO2(110) surfaces: evidence of a sub-monolayer mode and a multilayer mode

Small amounts of molybdenum (from 0.03 to 1.3 eqML) were deposited on non-stoichiometric TiO 2 (1 1 0) surface. The deposits were investigated by means of LEED and X-ray/UV photoemission using synchrotron radiation. For the smallest coverage (<0.2 eqML), deposition leads to oxidation of molybdenum into species close to Mo 4+ .In such a case, states appearing in TiO 2 band gap are mainly due to reduced titanium. For higher coverages, metallic behaviour of molybdenum is observed. This phenomenon was explained, thanks to first principle calculations, as a decrease of the Mo-O interactions for the benefit of the Mo-Mo interactions as the surface molybdenum atom density increases.

Infrared and Raman spectra of [M(N(2))(2)(dppe)(2)] (M = W, Mo) and the two protonated derivatives [WF(NNH)(dppe)(2)] and [WF(NNH(2))(dppe)(2)](+) (dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) are presented. Using isotope substituted compounds ((15)N and D) the vibrations of the Y-M-N(2)H(x)() (x = 0, 1, 2; Y = N(2), F) central unit are identified, in particular the M-N and N-N stretching modes. In case of the monoprotonated systems, an equilibrium between metal- and nitrogen-protonated species exists that is clearly detectable in the IR spectra. Transition metal derivatives of low oxidation state phosphorus oxoacids: synthetic pathways and structural studies

Abstract A general synthetic approach intended to rationalize the solution preparative chemistry of transition metal phosphites and hypophosphites is presented. As previously shown for other derivatives containing also tetrahedral or pseudotetrahedral oxoanions, the hydrolytic processes affecting the cationic moieties play a determinant role on the very nature of the final solid. In fact, despite the limited number of donor atoms in the anions, the crystal chemistry of these compounds is quite intricate because of both the variety of possible cationic aggregates and the many ways to interconnect them through pseudotetrahedral anionic groups.

A Density Functional Theory study on gold cyanide interactions: The fundamentals of ore cleaning

We have employed Density Functional Theory calculations to study the adsorption of CN, CN− and KCN on Au(111) and Au(211) surfaces and compare the obtained results to CO. The adsorption of CN, CN−, and KCN are exothermic with respect to the gas-phase moieties, and the adsorption energy increases at steps. Our results show that the binding mechanism of CN− is different from that of CO. The projected LDOS indicates that the bond between the flat surface and CN shows very small overlap between metal and CN states. Adsorption of 3d Transition Elements on a TiO2(110) Surface.

International audience; A first-principles study on the adsorption of 3d transition metal atoms on a stoichiometric TiO2(110) surface is reported. For all 3d elements except Cu, the most stable on-surface adsorption site is a site where the adatom binds to two twofold and one threefold surface oxygen atoms. For Ti, V, and Cr, however, a subsurface site, where the adatom substitutes a sixfold Ti atom, is more stable. The adatoms are oxidized in all cases. The charge transfer to the substrate is larger for the substitutional site than for the on-surface adsorption sites and decreases with atomic number along the 3d series.
