Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Spiral-CT bei der Untersuchung von Nierenbeckenkarzinomen
1994
PURPOSE To assess the value of spiral CT in comparison to conventional CT in the staging of renal pelvic carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS 35 patients with renal pelvic carcinoma underwent preoperative CT; conventional technique (n = 21) and spiral CT (n = 14) with the reconstruction of thin sections were compared. RESULTS Non-invasive or minimal invasive tumours (TA, T1, T2) could not be differentiated with either technique. Small, flat tumours (TA) or multicentric tumours may be missed, even if spiral scanning is applied. The separation of local tumour growth from infiltration is significantly improved by spiral CT (12 of 12 patients instead of 18 out of 21 patients with the conventional te…
Transitional cell carcinoma of endometrium: a case report of rare pure form
2018
Transitional cell carcinoma is a very rare histological subtype of endometrial cancer, with only 18 cases described in literature. Ovary represents the most common site where it accounts for 2% of all ovarian cancers. Due to the rarity of this disease, current management is controversial and includes various approaches, mostly described in the adjuvant setting, both radiotherapy and chemotherapy alone or in combination. Here, we report a case of a 65-year-old patient who underwent adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy for an endometrial transitional cell carcinoma. The patient was treated with radical total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (TAH-BSO), without lymph-node sa…
Urethral recurrence of transitional cell carcinoma in a female patient after cystectomy and orthotopic ileal neobladder.
2000
A 63-year-old woman presented elsewhere with a unifocal pT1, G3 transitional cell carcinoma at the bladder base in 1995. She underwent urethral sparing cystectomy and ileal neobladder. Intraoperative frozen section from the proximal urethra did not demonstrate tumor involvement. Final histological examination revealed pT1, pN2, G3 transitional cell carcinoma. Adjuvant chemotherapy was not given. In 1998 the patient had symptoms of obstructive voiding due to a 3 3 3 cm. solid mass at the neobladder-urethra anastomosis (see figure). After 6 cycles of methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin and cisplatin and a transient tumor size reduction, the patient was referred to us for local tumor progre…
An Anti-Ubiquitin Antibody Response in Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder
2015
BackgroundTo use combinatorial epitope mapping ("fingerprinting") of the antibody response to identify targets of the humoral immune response in patients with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder.MethodsA combinatorial random peptide library was screened on the circulating pool of immunoglobulins purified from an index patient with a high risk TCC (pTa high grade plus carcinoma in situ) to identify corresponding target antigens. A patient cohort was investigated for antibody titers against ubiquitin.ResultsWe selected, isolated, and validated an immunogenic peptide motif from ubiquitin as a dominant epitope of the humoral response. Patients with TCC had significantly higher anti…
El discreto desencanto de la burguesía o contra la crítica oficial de la Transición: Cercas, Reig y Pérez Andújar
2017
This article discusses some of the concepts that have built in recent years the critical discourse of the transition (‘agreement’, ‘reconciliation’, ‘impunity’, ‘elites operation’) and it questions the narratives that conceived the period as imposture (Javier Cercas) or deception (Rafael Reig), compared to other stories that view it as conquest of the working class (Javier Perez Andújar), developing another concept of ‘democracy’ Este artículo analiza algunos de los conceptos que han construido en los últimos años el discurso crítico de la transición (‘consenso’, ‘reconciliación’, ‘impunidad’, ‘operación de élites’) y cuestiona las narrativas que conciben el periodo como impostura (Javier C…
Transitions in herd management of semi-domesticated reindeer in northern Finland. 45
2008
In northern Finland, reindeer-herd management has experienced two major transitions: extensification of intensive herding, and development of supplementary/corral feeding in winter. The transistions were studied in six herding associations in different parts of the Finnish reindeer management area. It was suggested that intensive herding turns into more extensive forms as the reasons for intensive herding (predation, reindeer disappearing to foreign areas, protection of agricultural fields) gradually ceased to exist. The results of the study, based on interviews of elderly reindeer herders, were variable. In the three southern areas intensive herding changed to the free ranging system at th…
A new perspective on adolescent athletes’ transition into upper secondary school : A longitudinal mixed methods study protocol
2016
The challenge of combining elite sport and education into a dual career pathway remains to be a source of concern for many high-performance athletes. Previous research findings suggest that committed participation in both domains is highly demanding and success in one pursuit often comes at the expense of the other. There are emergent studies, however, that argue for the beneficial and complementary nature of dual career pathways. Consequently, we emphasize the importance of understanding the processes underlying differences in the development of athletes’ life trajectories. This article presents a study protocol to explore new methodological and analytical approaches that may extend curren…

Simple Rules for Complex Near-Glass-Transition Phenomena in Medium-Sized Schiff Bases
2022
Glass-forming ability is one of the most desired properties of organic compounds dedicated to optoelectronic applications. Therefore, finding general structure–property relationships and other rules governing vitrification and related near-glass-transition phenomena is a burning issue for numerous compound families, such as Schiff bases. Hence, we employ differential scanning calorimetry, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and quantum density functional theory calculations to investigate near-glass-transition phenomena, as well as ambient- and high-pressure molecular dynamics for two structurally related Schiff bases belonging to the family of glycine imino esters. Firstly…
