Using Y-chromosome capture enrichment to resolve haplogroup H2 shows new evidence for a two-path Neolithic expansion to Western Europe

2021

Uniparentally-inherited markers on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and the non-recombining regions of the Y chromosome (NRY), have been used for the past 30 years to investigate the history of humans from a maternal and paternal perspective. Researchers have preferred mtDNA due to its abundance in the cells, and comparatively high substitution rate. Conversely, the NRY is less susceptible to back mutations and saturation, and is potentially more informative than mtDNA owing to its longer sequence length. However, due to comparatively poor NRY coverage via shotgun sequencing, and the relatively low and biased representation of Y-chromosome variants on capture assays such as the 1240 k, ancient DNA…

Phosphine Ligands Based on the Ferrocenyl Platform: Advances in Catalytic Cross-Couplings

2023

Ferrocenyl skeletons tagged with a variety of donor atoms (metalloligands) have become popular in modern metal-catalyzed organic transformations, broadening the applications. Ferrocenylphosphines, such as 1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf), have been widely used as metalloligands in academic and industrial research, motivating further investigation into novel ferrocenylphosphine ligands. The current review concentrated non-exhaustively on emblematic applications of different ferrocenylphosphine ligands in transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling strategies. Initially, the stereochemical aspects of the ferrocenyl skeleton, nomenclature, and applications of chiral ferrocenyl phosphine…

Translational dynamics effects on the non-local correlations between two atoms

2005

A pair of atoms interacting successively with the field of the same cavity and exchanging a single photon, leave the cavity in an entangled state of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) type (see, for example, [S.J.D. Phoenix, and S.M. Barnett, J. Mod. Opt. \textbf{40} (1993) 979]). By implementing the model with the translational degrees of freedom, we show in this letter that the entanglement with the translational atomic variables can lead, under appropriate conditions, towards the separability of the internal variables of the two atoms. This implies that the translational dynamics can lead, in some cases, to difficulties in observing the Bell's inequality violation for massive particles.

A liquid alkoxide precursor for the atomic layer deposition of aluminum oxide films

2020

For large-scale atomic layer deposition (ALD) of alumina, the most commonly used alkyl precursor trimethylaluminum poses safety issues due to its pyrophoric nature. In this work, the authors have investigated a liquid alkoxide, aluminum tri-sec-butoxide (ATSB), as a precursor for ALD deposition of alumina. ATSB is thermally stable and the liquid nature facilitates handling in a bubbler and potentially enables liquid injection toward upscaling. Both thermal and plasma enhanced ALD processes are investigated in a vacuum type reactor by using water, oxygen plasma, and water plasma as coreactants. All processes achieved ALD deposition at a growth rate of 1-1.4 angstrom/cycle for substrate tempe…

Gas cell studies of thorium using filament dispensers at IGISOL

2020

Abstract Filament-based dispensers of thorium have been investigated at the IGISOL facility, Jyvaskyla, for potential use as a thorium ion source for future collinear laser spectroscopy experiments. Several different filaments were manufactured in the Institute of Atomic and Subatomic Physics of TU Wien, with 232Th and 229Th prepared on tantalum substrates either by drying thorium nitrate solution or via molecular plating, while adding a layer of zirconium for oxide reduction. The filaments were characterized in a helium-filled gas cell by performing selective and efficient in-gas-cell resonance laser ionization and by analyzing the resulting ion beams by mass spectrometry. Additionally, th…

Homoleptic iron(II) complexes with the ionogenic ligand 6,6′-Bis(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-2,2′-bipyridine: spin crossover behavior in a singular 2D spin cro…

2015

Deprotonation of the ionogenic tetradentate ligand 6,6′-bis(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-2,2′-bipyridine [H2bipy(ttr)2] in the presence of FeII in solution has afforded an anionic mononuclear complex and a neutral two-dimensional coordination polymer formulated as, respectively, NEt3H{Fe[bipy(ttr)2][Hbipy(ttr)2]}·3MeOH (1) and {Fe[bipy(ttr)2]}n (2). The anions [Hbipy(ttr)2]− and [bipy(ttr)2]2– embrace the FeII centers defining discrete molecular units 1 with the FeII ion lying in a distorted bisdisphenoid dodecahedron, a rare example of octacoordination in the coordination environment of this cation. The magnetic behavior of 1 shows that the FeII is high-spin, and its Mössbauer spectrum is characteriz…

ChemInform Abstract: Spin Density Distribution in Transition Metal Complexes: Some Thoughts and Hints

2010

Abstract The spin density distribution in transition metal complexes is discussed in qualitative terms, taking into account the coexistence of spin delocalization and spin polarization mechanisms, with the help of numerical results for several complexes obtained from density functional calculations. The covalent character of the metal-ligand bonds as well as the σ- or π-characteristics of the partially filled d orbitals must be taken into account to qualitatively predict the sign of the spin density at a particular atom within a ligand. The same patterns can be applied to binuclear complexes and can be helpful in determining the ferro- or antiferromagnetic character of the exchange coupling…

Determination of polymerization shrinkage stress by means of a photoelastic investigation

2002

This study examined the polymerization stress of different established composite resins (Tetric Ceram, Vivadent; EsthetX, Surefil, Dentsply/DeTrey; Clearfil AP-X, Clearfil Photo Posterior, Kuraray; Prodigy Condensable, sds Kerr; Filtek P 60, 3M ESPE; Solitaire 2, Heraeus-Kulzer) by means of a photo-elastic investigation and investigated six new, experimental composite resins, which have been claimed to exhibit less polymerization shrinkage (InTen-S, Vivadent; K 112, K 051, Dentsply/DeTrey; Compox, Pluto, Hermes 3M ESPE).Cylindrical cavities (phi 5 mm) in Araldit B epoxide resin plates (40 x 40 x 3 mm3) were pretreated with the Rocatec system to ensure bonding of the composite resin. Ten com…

Synthesis and structural characterization of new transition metal complexes of a highly luminescent amino-terpyridine ligand

2020

Abstract The synthesis, NMR and UV–Vis spectroscopy measurements and X-ray diffraction analysis of four new metal complexes of the amino terpyridine ligand 4′-[4-(4-aminophenyl)phenyl]-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine L, namely [FeL2](ClO4)2 (1), [ZnL2](ClO4)2 (2), [CdL2](ClO4)2 (3) and [PtMe3IL] (4), are reported. The X-ray crystal structures of complexes 1–3 are 1:2 metal:ligand structures with tridentate ligands decorated around the octahedral metal centers. In complex 4, with L in a bidentate coordination mode, the Pt(IV) coordinated methyl and iodine groups form a fac-arrangement. The 1H NMR spectrum of 4 shows three 195Pt-1H resonances for the methyl groups incorporating the fac-arrangement, wh…
