An integrated environmental indicator for urban transportation systems: description and application

2015

A simplified version of the ecological footprint method is proposed for assessing the environmental performances of urban transportation systems. The method, starting from the knowledge of the composition of the running vehicular fleet, is here applied to a southern Italian province. It represents a synthetic indicator of the environmental pressure exerted by the system also matching the pollutant emissions with the carrying capacity of the site. Particularly, the forested area needed to absorb the CO2 emissions of the system is compared with the total forested area of the province. Predictive Intelligent Fuzzy Control for Cooperative Motion of Two Nonholonomic Wheeled Cars

In this paper a problem of intelligent cooperative motion control of two wheeled nonholonomic cars (target and follower) is considered. Once a target car converges to a fixed state (position and orientation), a follower car coming from different position and orientation, converges to the state above, without excessive delay between the known arrival time of the target car and the arrival time of the follower. In this sense we present a new predictive fuzzy control system. A Kalman's filter and an odometric model are used to predict the future position and orientation of the target car. Deploying harmonized ITS services in the framework of EasyWay project

In the last decade, the use of new technologies in the transportation domain has made possible the development of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). However, the ITS services were deployed isolated. The purpose of the EasyWay Project is to involve all the European countries to deploy harmonized ITS services taking into account the European citizen as final In this paper, an introduction of EasyWay project is done, including the ITS concept services and the Deployment Guidelines. A deployment guideline for traffic management and corridors is presented. Using this guideline, a real Spanish Traffic management Plan is analyzed.

Some attractive service scenarios for Railways' Intelligent Transport Systems (RITS) in three different user segments, that is, passengers, freight companies and train operator's in-house customers, are presented. The case study covers the analysis of customer needs and techno-economic evaluations. The analysis indicates that Flash-OFDM technology provides promising pre-stage solution for the train connections in Finland. Also, the WiMAX-based high-speed Internet access for passengers may be profitable in the most heavily operated railway leg in Finland.
