Search for a heavy charged boson in events with a charged lepton and missing transverse momentum from pp collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detec…
2019
A search for a heavy charged-boson resonance decaying into a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino is reported. A data sample of 139 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015–2018 is used in the search. The observed transverse mass distribution computed from the lepton and missing transverse momenta is consistent with the distribution expected from the Standard Model, and upper limits on the cross section for pp→W′→lν are extracted (l=e or μ). These vary between 1.3 pb and 0.05 fb depending on the resonance mass in the range between 0.15 and 7.0 TeV at 95% confidence level for the electron and muon channels combined. …

Results of a search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses proton-proton collision data corresponding to an inte ...
Search fortbResonances in Proton-Proton Collisions ats=7 TeVwith the ATLAS Detector
2012
This Letter presents a search for tb resonances in 1.04 fb(-1) of LHC proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. Events with a lepton, missing transverse momentum, and two jets are selected and the invariant mass of the corresponding final state is reconstructed. The search exploits the shape of the tb invariant mass distribution compared to the expected standard model backgrounds. The model of a right-handed W(R)' with standard model-like couplings is chosen as the benchmark model for this search. No statistically significant excess of events is observed in the data, and upper limits on the cross section times the branching ratio of W(…
J/ψElliptic Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions atsNN=2.76 TeV
2013
We report on the first measurement of inclusive J/psi elliptic flow v(2) in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The measurement is performed with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV in the rapidity range 2.5 < y < 4.0. The dependence of the J/psi v(2) on the collision centrality and on the J/psi transverse momentum is studied in the range 0 <= p(T) < 10 GeV/c. For semicentral Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV, an indication of nonzero v(2) is observed with a largest measured value of v(2) = 0.116 +/-0.046(stat) +/- 0.029(syst) for J/psi in the transverse momentum range 2 <= p(T) < 4 GeV/c. The elliptic flow measurement complements the previously reported ALI…
Azimuthally Differential Pion Femtoscopy in Pb-Pb Collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV
2017
We present the first azimuthally differential measurements of the pion source size relative to the second harmonic event plane in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of √sNN = 2.76 TeV. The measurements have been performed in the centrality range 0%-50% and for pion pair transverse momenta 0.2 < kT < 0.7 GeV/c. We find that the Rside and Rout radii, which characterize the pion source size in the directions perpendicular and parallel to the pion transverse momentum, oscillate out of phase, similar to what was observed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The final-state source eccentricity, estimated via Rside oscillations, is found to be significantly sma…
Λc+ Production and Baryon-to-Meson Ratios in pp and p -Pb Collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV at the LHC
2021
The prompt production of the charm baryon Λ c + and the Λ c + / D 0 production ratios were measured at midrapidity with the ALICE detector in p p and p -Pb collisions at s NN = 5.02 TeV . These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Λ c + / D 0 ratio with increasing transverse momentum ( p T ) in both collision systems in the range 2 p T 12 GeV / c , exhibiting similarities with the light-flavor baryon-to-meson ratios p / π and Λ / K S 0 . At low p T , predictions that include additional color-reconnection mechanisms beyond the leading-color approximation, assume the existence of additional higher-mass charm-baryon states, or include hadronization via coalescence can describe the dat…

A search for supersymmetry involving the pair production of gluinos decaying via third-generation squarks to the lightest neutralino (chi) over tilde (0)(1) is reported. It uses an LHC proton-proto ...
Measurement of Inclusive Differential Cross Sections forΥ(1S)Production inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2005
We present measurements of the inclusive production cross sections of the Upsilon(1S) bottomonium state in p (p) over bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV. Using the Upsilon(1S)->mu(+)mu(-) decay mode for a data sample of 159 +/- 10 pb(-1) collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, we determine the differential cross sections as a function of the Upsilon(1S) transverse momentum for three ranges of the Upsilon(1S) rapidity: 0 <\y(Upsilon)\<= 0.6, 0.6 <\y(Upsilon)\<= 1.2, and 1.2 <\y(Upsilon)\<= 1.8.
Low Mass Dimuons Produced in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions
2007
The NA60 experiment has measured low-mass muon pair production in In-In collisions at 158 A GeV with unprecedented precision. We show that this data is reproduced very well by a dynamical model with parameters scaled from fits to measurements of hadronic transverse mass spectra and Hanbury-Brown and Twiss correlations in Pb-Pb and Pb-Au collisions at the same energy. The data is consistent with in-medium properties of $\rho$ and $\omega$-mesons at finite temperature and density as deduced from empirical forward-scattering amplitudes. Inclusion of the vacuum decay of the $\rho$-meson after freeze-out is necessary for an understanding of the mass and transverse momentum spectrum of dimuons wi…
Rapidity dependence of particle production in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions
2002
We compute the rapidity dependence of particle and transverse energy production in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at various beam energies and atomic numbers using the perturbative QCD + saturation model. The distribution is a broad gaussian near $y=0$ but the rapid increase of particle production with the beam energy will via energy conservation strongly constrain the rapidity distribution at large $y$.
