Chemical reduction of the mycotoxin beauvericin using allyl isothiocyanate.

2011

Abstract Beauvericin (BEA) is a bioactive compound produced by the secondary metabolism of several Fusarium strains and known to have various biological activities. This study investigated the reduction of BEA present in the concentration of 25 mg/kg on a solution model (phosphate buffer saline at pH 4 and 7) and in wheat flour using allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) as a reactant. The concentration of the mycotoxin studied was evaluated using liquid chromatography coupled to the diode array detector (LC-DAD), whereas adducts formed between the BEA and AITC were examined by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry-linear ion trap (LC-MS-LIT). In solution, BEA reduction ranged from 20% t…

An atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-ion-trap mass spectrometer for the on-line analysis of volatile compounds in foods: a tool for linking ar…

2014

An atmospheric pressure chemical ionization ion-trap mass spectrometer was set up for the on-line analysis of aroma compounds. This instrument, which has been successfully employed for some years in several in vitro and in vivo flavour release studies, is described for the first time in detail. The ion source was fashioned from polyether ether ketone and operated at ambient pressure and temperature making use of a discharge corona pin facing coaxially the capillary ion entrance of the ion-trap mass spectrometer. Linear dynamic ranges (LDR), limits of detection (LOD) and other analytical characteristics have been re-evaluated. LDRs and LODs have been found fully compatible with the concentra…

Development of a species-unspecific isotope dilution GC-ICPMS method for possible routine quantification of sulfur species in petroleum products.

2008

Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) hyphenated with capillary gas chromatography was applied for sulfur multispecies determination in petroleum products by species-unspecific isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS). To guarantee a stable and continuous addition of the spike into the GC-ICPMS system, a special dosing unit was designed and synthesis of a (34)S-labeled dimethyldisulfide spike from (34)S-enriched elemental sulfur in the milligram range was developed. The sample was mixed with an internal standard for spike mass flow calibration. From the mass flow chromatogram obtained by species-unspecific GC-ICP-IDMS, determination of all separated sulfur species and of the…

Urban organic aerosol composition in Eastern China differs from North to South: Molecular insight from a liquid chromatography-Orbitrap mass spectrom…

2019

Particulate air pollution in China is influencing human health, ecosystem and climate. However, the chemical composition of particulate aerosol, especially of the organic fraction, is still not well understood. In this study, particulate aerosol samples with a diameter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5) were collected in January 2014 in three cities located in Northeast, East and Southeast China, i.e., Changchun, Shanghai and Guangzhou, respectively. Organic aerosol (OA) in the PM2.5 samples was analyzed by ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry in both negative mode (ESI−) and positive mode electrospray ioni…

Production of spray-dried proanthocyanidin-rich cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) extract as a potential functional ingredient: Improvement of stabili…

2018

International audience; Cinnamon proanthocyanidins present important biological properties. However, these molecules are unstable and possess an astringent taste, which can make their ingestion difficult. In this context, entrapment by spray-drying technology may be used to produce a concentrated extract with improved stability and reduced astringency. Thus, this work aimed to prepare spray-dried microparticles loaded with a proanthocyanidin-rich cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) extract (PRCE), immobilized in a maltodextrin matrix. Freeze-dried samples of the extract (without the carrier) were also prepared for comparison. The particles were characterized for moisture content, water activit…

Determination of pharmaceutical residues in wastewater using high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry

2016

Abstract A multi-class method for the determination of 24 emerging pharmaceutical residues has been developed and validated. The method is based on solid-phase extraction of wastewater samples using Strata-X cartridges followed by high performance liquid chromatography coupled to hybrid quadrupole − Orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometry (HPLC-Q-Orbitrap-HRMS). A single-laboratory validation procedure showed satisfactory analytical performance. The analysis of 21 samples collected at the wastewater treatment plant in Riga revealed the occurrence of 20 compounds of different therapeutic classes. The highest concentration was found for the central nervous system stimulator caffeine − up t…

The prognostic value of skeletal muscle index on clinical and survival outcomes after cytoreduction and HIPEC for peritoneal metastases from colorect…

2021

BACKGROUND Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hypertermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) represent the most effective strategy to manage peritoneal metastases (PM). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of body composition on clinical outcomes in patients with PM. METHODS A systematic literature search was performed using Medline, Web of Science and EMBASE databases from inception to the 20st August 2020. Data were independently extracted by 3 authors. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess quality and risk of bias of studies. Pooled analyses were performed using Mantel-Haenszel method to estimate overall effect size with mean differences or odd ratios (O…

On the chromatic number of disk graphs

1998

Colorings of disk graphs arise in the study of the frequency-assignment problem in broadcast networks. Motivated by the observations that the chromatic number of graphs modeling real networks hardly exceeds their clique number, we examine the related properties of the unit disk (UD) graphs and their different generalizations. For all these graphs including the most general class of the double disk (DD) graphs, it is shown that X(G) ≤ c.ω(G) for a constant c. Several coloring algorithms are analyzed for disk graphs, aiming to improve the bounds on X(G). We find that their worst-case performance expressed in the number of used colors is indeed reached in some instances.

Semantic and action tool knowledge in the brain: Identifying common and distinct networks.

2021

Most cognitive models of apraxia assume that impaired tool use results from a deficit occurring at the conceptual level, which contains dedicated information about tool use, namely, semantic and action tool knowledge. Semantic tool knowledge contains information about the prototypical use of familiar tools, such as function (e.g., a hammer and a mallet share the same purpose) and associative relations (e.g., a hammer goes with a nail). Action tool knowledge contains information about how to manipulate tools, such as hand posture and kinematics. The present review aimed to better understand the neural correlates of action and semantic tool knowledge, by focusing on activation, stimulation an…
