Ranking world tourist destinations with a composite indicator of competitiveness: To weigh or not to weigh?
2019
Abstract This paper contributes a weighted composite indicator of competitiveness for 136 world tourist destinations. To that end, Data Envelopment Analysis and Multi-Criteria-Decision-Making techniques are used with raw indicators from the 2017 edition of the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF). An outstanding feature of our approach is that weights are endogenously generated. Furthermore, the role played by several variables in tourism competitiveness is assessed using truncated regression and bootstrapping. The ranking of world tourist destinations produced by our weighted composite indicator of competitiveness is, however, fairly similar to that der…
Electron trapping centres and cross sections in LiNbO3studied by57Co Mössbauer emission spectroscopy
1999
Fast electron trapping processes and aliovalent charge states following the 57Co(EC)57Fe decay are studied in undoped, 5.4 mol% Mg-doped and 0.1 mol% Fe-doped LiNbO3 in various thermochemical reduction (TCR) states. Static 57Co Mossbauer emission spectra of congruent Mg:LiNbO3 recorded at T = 4.2 K in external magnetic field of 4.6 T are presented. Trapping cross section ratios are derived for Fe3+Li, Nb5+Li and Mg2+Li. A method to determine trap concentrations for TCR states of LiNbO3 is outlined. The electron-capture distance of the traps is found to be 2.7±1.4 nm. As this is much smaller than the 6 keV Auger-electron penetration depth, it is concluded that the distribution of the alioval…
Self-trapping of charge polarized states in four-dot molecular quantum cellular automata: bi-electronic tetrameric mixed-valence species
2014
Abstract Our interest in this article is prompted by the problem of the vibronic self-trapping of charge polarized states in the four-dot molecular quantum cellular automata (mQCA), a paradigm for nanoelectronics, in which binary information is encoded in charge configuration of the mQCA cell. We report the evaluation of the electronic states and the adiabatic potentials of mixed-valence (MV) systems in which two electrons (or holes) are shared among four sites. These systems are exemplified by the two kinds of tetra–ruthenium (2Ru(II)+ 2Ru(III)) clusters (assembled as two coupled Creutz–Taube dimers) for which molecular implementation of mQCA was proposed. The tetra–ruthenium clusters incl…

Functionnalized Surface Acoustic Wave Sensors for the Detection of Hazardous Gases
2018
International audience; In this work, we show the capabilities of Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices to probe the properties of gas sensitive materials for the manufacturing of hazardous gas sensors. The great capabilities of cobalt corroles for the trapping of carbon monoxide (CO) were exploited to produce selective sensors. These corroles were deposited on SAW delay lines surfaces and then exposed to carbon monoxide (CO) in standard conditions. Concentrations of a few hundreds of ppb were measured emphasizing the interest of such sensors for the detection of CO. Another type of sensitive layers exhibiting specific porosity adapted to the trapping of formaldehyde (CH$_2$O) were deposited …

Phase Trapping in Multistep Spin Crossover Compound
2020
The dimeric motif is the smallest unit for two interacting spin centers allowing for systematic investigations of cooperative interactions. As spin transition compounds, dinuclear complexes are of particular interest, since they potentially reveal a two-step spin crossover (SCO), switching between the high spin-high spin [HS-HS], the high spin-low spin [HS-LS], and the low spin-low spin [LS-LS] states. Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of six dinuclear iron(II) complexes [FeII2(μ2-L1)2](BF4)4 (C1), [FeII2(μ2-L1)2](ClO4)4 (C2), [FeII2(μ2-L1)2](F3CSO3)4 (C3), [FeII2(μ2-L2)2](BF4)4 (C4), [FeII2(μ2-L2)2](BF4)4 (C5), and [FeII2(μ2-L2)2](BF4)4 (C6), based on the 1,3,4-thiadiazo…
Trapping of Different Lipase Conformers in Water-Restricted Environments
1996
Based on a recently reported strategy to rationally activate lipolytic enzymes for use in nonaqueous media [Mingarro, I., et al. (1995) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 92, 3308-3312], we compared the behavior in water-restricted environments of activated vs nonactivated forms of different lipases toward their natural substrates, triacylglycerols. To this end, nine lipases from varied origins (mammalian, fungal, and bacterial) were assayed using simple acidolyses as nonaqueous model reactions. The experimental results for several (though not all) lipases, discussed in the light of current structural and functional information, were collectively consistent with a model where, depending on the "…
Lipase-enhanced activity in flavour ester reactions by trapping enzyme conformers in the presence of interfaces
1998
In order to improve the lipase-catalyzed synthesis of flavour esters, we have used the reported strategy of interfacial activation-based molecular (bio)imprinting [Mingarro et al. 1995. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 92: 3308], later called trapping in the presence of amphiphile interfaces (TPI) [Mingarro et al. 1996. Biochemistry 35: 9935]. Five lipases of fungal and mammalian origin typically used for esterification process have been explored to improve production by TPI treatment. A marked enhancement of enzymatic activity has been observed in all TPI-treated lipases assayed and the activation factor obtained was up to 90-fold. The dependence on chain length of acyl donors in the esterifi…
