Normalizing the eating pattern with virtual reality for bulimia nervosa: a case report

AbstractThe aim of the present study was to analyze the effects of a virtual reality (VR) component as a therapeutic tool to normalize eating patterns, as part of the cognitive-behavioral treatment of a bulimia nervosa (BN) patient. Results indicated that the patient made significant progress with her eating habits; binges and vomits were eliminated completely. Moreover, when the VR started the patient avoided food, especially meat (5 over 5), and it was reduction of this avoidance in the lasts sessions (2 and 3 over 5). The techniques of DIR/Floortime™ have taken a certain momentum in our country. The aim of this article is to analyze the evidence on the efficacy of these techniques for which four databases have been searched (PsychArticles, ERIC, PubMed and Medline). After refining the documents found by applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria, only 18 empirical studies were detected (7 single case studies, 3 quasi-experimental studies and 6 randomized clinical trials). Two of the studies are re-analyses of previous studies or follow-up studies. El valor predictivo de un instrumento es la probabilidad de acertar el diagnóstico de trastorno o retraso en el desarrollo de un niño. Se analizaron las puntuaciones de escala Merrill-Palmer-R (MP-R) en una muestra de 291 niños menores de un año de la Comunidad Valenciana.
