Management of chronic musculoskeletal pain in veterans: a systematic review

2021

Background and aim of the work. Veterans are military with health problems due to military conditions. The improved body armor and operational conditions has reduced the number of deaths, but increased the number of veterans with severe injuries, affected by musculoskeletal pain and associated syndromes, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Multimodal approaches are considered in USA the gold standard for the treatment of these problems, while in Europe and Italy the data are unknown. The aim of this review was to describe and summarize multimodal therapeutic approaches that apply to the veteran population for chronic musculoskeletal pain and relate syndromes management. Methods. A compr…

Orthodontics and veneers to restore the anterior guidance. A minimally invasive approach

2017

Tooth wear is defined as the progressive loss of a tooth's surface due to actions other than those which cause tooth decay or dental trauma. It is a pathological condition with an increasing prevalence among young people. The aim of this article is to describe an alternative treatment modality to rehabilitate the anterior guidance by a minimally invasive interdisciplinary ortho-restorative treatment. Two patients came to the dental clinic for restorative treatment in order to rehabilitate the worn anterior dentition. Clinical analysis showed tooth surface loss located at the incisal edges by attrition due to an inadequate anterior guidance. In both cases the occlusal vertical dimension was …

Mahwah, New Jersey.

Ceļu locītavu slimību dinamikas statisko datu analīze laika posmā no 2012. līdz 2017. gadam vienā ārstniecības iestādē

2018

Energy Metabolism, Lactate/Pyruvate Ratio and Extracellular Space in Cortex and White Matter Adjacent to and Distant from a Local Freezing Lesion

1969

The present investigation was undertaken to study the distribution of pathological fluid accumulation and the local energy metabolism in the cortex and white matter following a localized traumatic lesion of the cortex. A systematic examination of the changes in the tissue following a trauma is the basis for further studies on the relationship between cortical blood supply, local tissue metabolism and local function.

AbstractAccumulating evidence suggests a pivotal role of PDGFRß positive cells, a specific marker for central nervous system (CNS) pericytes, in tissue scarring. Identification of cells that contribute to tissue reorganization in the CNS upon injury is a crucial step to develop novel treatment strategies in regenerative medicine. It has been shown that pericytes contribute to scar formation in the spinal cord. It is further known that ischemia initially triggers pericyte loss in vivo, whilst brain trauma is capable of inducing pericyte detachment from cerebral vessels. These data point towards a significant role of pericytes in CNS injury. The temporal and spatial dynamics of PDGFRß cells a…

Morphologic Damage and Changes of Intracellular Calcium-Binding Sites after Acute Noise Trauma in the Organ of Corti of the Guinea Pig

1993

In guinea pigs, an acute acoustic trauma was created by 6 consecutive gunshots. The sound pressure at the ear drum was 156 +/- 4 dB, the frequency maximum was between 4 and 6 kHz. Sixty hours after the noise trauma, the animals were decapitated, and the cochleae were prepared for microscopic analysis of the resulting trauma to the organ of Corti. During the process of fixation, the potassium-pyroantimonate precipitation reaction was performed to localize calcium-binding sites. The pattern of cell morphology and the distribution of calcium-binding sites was compared to that of normal control animals. Morphologic changes of the cells in the organ of Corti correlated with changes of the cellul…

Secondary Growth of a Primary Brain Tissue Necrosis from a Focal Lesion

1994

Traumatic brain injury is associated with the development of secondary brain damage, such as brain edema, intracranial hypertension, and cerebral ischemia [1]. A novel aspect is that a primary necrosis of brain parenchyma evolving from a focal cerebral insult may be subjected to secondary growth. Experiments utilizing different methods of brain injury have consistently confirmed an increase in size of the resulting tissue necrosis within 24 h, amounting to 50% in rats [3, 7, 10] and even 300% in rabbits [11]. It is not clear yet, however, whether the phenomenon reflects a delayed but irreversible primary process which is resistant to treatment or a manifestation of secondary brain damage, t…

Oral neural tumors: Clinicopathologic analysis of 157 cases and review of the literature

2019

Background Oral neural tumors (ONTs) are rare lesions and represent reactive or neoplastic proliferations of nerve sheath cells. The purpose of the present study is to report the clinical, demographic and histopathologic features of 157 ONTs diagnosed in a single Oral Pathology Department and review the pertinent literature. Material and methods 157 cases of ONTs diagnosed during a 44-year period were retrospectively collected and the diagnosis was reconfirmed by studying representative haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue sections. The patients' gender and age, as well as the main clinical features of the lesions, were retrieved from the biopsy submission forms. Results The 157 ONTs repre…
