Captivity and infection by the fungal pathogen batrachochytrium salamandrivorans perturb the amphibian skin microbiome

2019

The emerging fungal pathogen, Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal) is responsible for the catastrophic decline of European salamanders and poses a threat to amphibians globally. The amphibian skin microbiome can influence disease outcome for several host-pathogen systems, yet little is known of its role in Bsal infection. In addition, many experimental in-vivo amphibian disease studies to date have relied on specimens that have been kept in captivity for long periods without considering the influence of environment on the microbiome and how this may impact the host response to pathogen exposure. We characterized the impact of captivity and exposure to Bsal on the skin bacterial and fung…

Photoproduction of the hypertriton

1997

In the framework of the impulse approximation we study the photoproduction of the hypertriton $^3_{\Lambda}$H by using realistic $^3$He wave functions obtained as solutions of Faddeev equations with the Reid soft-core potential for different $^3_{\Lambda}$H wave functions. We obtain relatively small cross sections of the order of 1 nb. We also find that the influence of Fermi motion is important, while the effect of different off-shell assumptions on the cross section is not too significant.

Production of deuterons, tritons, 3He nuclei, and their antinuclei in pp collisions at √s = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV

2018

Invariant differential yields of deuterons and antideuterons in p p collisions at √ s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV and the yields of tritons, 3 He nuclei, and their antinuclei at √ s = 7 TeV have been measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurements cover a wide transverse momentum ( p T ) range in the rapidity interval | y | < 0.5 , extending both the energy and the p T reach of previous measurements up to 3 GeV/ c for A = 2 and 6 GeV/ c for A = 3 . The coalescence parameters of (anti)deuterons and 3 ¯¯¯¯ He nuclei exhibit an increasing trend with p T and are found to be compatible with measurements in p A collisions at low p T and lower energies. The integrate…

Regeneration of total RNA purification silica-based columns

2010

Silica-based columns are largely used in RNA purification, allowing fast extractions and good yields of high quality nucleic acid, but their major limitation is the high cost. The reuse of such columns, although desirable, is not recommended because of residual amounts of material from the previous sample trapped in the column matrix, which might be released during further purification. Thus, recycling does need previous complete removal of any detectable RNA trace, but to date no protocol which allows decontamination and reuse is available. We report a very rapid decontamination procedure, based on treatment with warm alkaline solution containing Triton X-100, which ensures no RNA carry-ove…

3ΛH and 3Λ¯H‾ production in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

2016

The production of the hypertriton nuclei 3 H and 3 ¯ H has been measured for the first time in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE experiment at LHC. The pT-integrated 3 H yield in one unity of rapidity, dN/dy × B.R. 3 H→3He,π− = (3.86 ± 0.77(stat.) ± 0.68(syst.)) × 10−5 in the 0–10% most central collisions, is consistent with the predictions from a statistical thermal model using the same temperature as for the light hadrons. The coalescence parameter B3 shows a dependence on the transverse momentum, similar to the B2 of deuterons and the B3 of 3He nuclei. The ratio of yields S3 = 3 H/(3He×/p) was measured to be S3 = 0.60±0.13(stat.)±0.21(syst.) in 0–10% centrality events; t…

Electromagnetic Production of the Hypertriton

1996

Kaon photoproduction on He3, gamma + He3 --> K+ + Hypertriton, is studied in the framework of the impulse approximation. Realistic He3 wave functions obtained as solutions of Faddeev equations with the Reid soft-core potential are used along with different Hypertriton wave functions. Results are compared for several elementary operator models, which can successfully describe the elementary kaon production off the proton up to a photon lab energy of k = 2.2 GeV. It is found that the corresponding cross sections are small, of the order of several nanobarns. It is also shown that the influence of Fermi motion is important, while the effect of different off-shell assumptions on the cross sec…

Search for weakly decaying Λn‾ and ΛΛ exotic bound states in central Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2016

We present results of a search for two hypothetical strange dibaryon states, i.e. the H-dibaryon and the possible (Lambda n) over bar bound state. The search is performed with the ALICE detector in central (0-10%) Pb-Pb collisions at root S-NN = 2.76 TeV, by invariant mass analysis in the decay modes (Lambda n) over bar (d) over bar pi(+) and H-dibaryon -> Lambda p pi(-). No evidence for these bound states is observed. Upper limits are determined at 99% confidence level for a wide range of lifetimes and for the full range of branching ratios. The results are compared to thermal, coalescence and hybrid UrQMD model expectations, which describe correctly the production of other loosely bound s…

HΛ3 and H‾Λ¯3 production in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2019

Abstract The production of the hypertriton nuclei H Λ 3 and H ‾ Λ ¯ 3 has been measured for the first time in Pb–Pb collisions at s NN = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE experiment at LHC. The p T -integrated H Λ 3 yield in one unity of rapidity, d N / d y × B . R . ( H Λ 3 → He 3 , π − ) = ( 3.86 ± 0.77 ( stat. ) ± 0.68 ( syst. ) ) × 10 − 5 in the 0–10% most central collisions, is consistent with the predictions from a statistical thermal model using the same temperature as for the light hadrons. The coalescence parameter B 3 shows a dependence on the transverse momentum, similar to the B 2 of deuterons and the B 3 of 3He nuclei. The ratio of yields S 3 = H Λ 3 / ( He 3 × Λ / p ) was measured to b…

ΛNNandΣNNsystems at threshold

2007

We calculate the hypertriton binding energy and the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}d$ and $\ensuremath{\Sigma}d$ scattering lengths using baryon-baryon interactions obtained from a chiral constituent quark model. We study consistently the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\mathit{NN}$ and $\ensuremath{\Sigma}\mathit{NN}$ systems by analyzing the effect of the $\ensuremath{\Sigma}\ensuremath{\leftrightarrow}\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ conversion. Our interactions correctly predict the hypertriton binding energy. The $(I,J)=(0,3/2)$ $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\mathit{NN}$ channel is also attractive and it might have a bound state. From the condition of nonexistence of a (0,3/2) $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\mathit{NN}$ bound state, an…
