No Safe Haven for Truth Pluralists

2021

Truth pluralism offers the latest extension in the tradition of substantive theorizing about truth. While various forms of this thesis are available, most frameworks commit to domain reliance. According to domain reliance, various ways of being true, such as coherence and correspondence, are tied to discourse domains rather than individual sentences. From this follows that the truth of different types of sentences is accounted for by their domain membership. For example, sentences addressing ethical matters are true if they cohere and those addressing extensional states of affairs if they correspond. By tying distinct truth-grounding properties to domains rather than individual sentences, t…

Truth in Fiction Reconsidered

2018

Possible and narrative worlds are traditionally the most influential tools for explaining our understanding of fiction. One obvious implication of this is considering fiction as a matter of pretence. The theory I offer claims that it is a mistake to take truth as a substantial notion. This view rejects possible worlds and pretence as decisive features in dealing with fiction. Minimalist theory of fiction offers a solution that gives a way to combine a philosophical theory of meaning and views of literary theory. Narrative worlds approach saves its usefulness since its focus is more in the psychological process of reading. Minimalist theory of fiction is based on the minimal theory of truth …

Verità e discorso. Heidegger e la fenomenologia aristotelica

2022

The research critically examines the attribution to Aristtele of the fatal aporia between the phenomenological instance of an intuitive and pre-categorical truth and the hermeneutic instance of an originally linguistic articulation of the truth itself conducted by Heidegger radicalizing the polarization between the truth of the nous and the truth of dianoia. At the same time, the value of Heidegger's reading is highlighted, which inaugurates a phenomenological direction of Aristotelian studies inspired by the assumption that for the Stagirite concrete realities must be understood starting from a concretion of physis and logos. The phenomenological approach according to which there is no nee…

Postveritat, escepticisme de recepció i escepticisme d'emissió

2019

Quine’s conflicts with truth deflationism

2022

AbstractCompared to the extensive amount of literature on various themes of W.V.O. Quine’s philosophy, his immanent concept of truth remains a relatively unexplored topic. This relative lack of research contributes to a persistent confusion on the deflationary and inflationary details of Quine’s truth. According to a popular reading, Quine’s disquotational definition of the truth predicate exhausts the topic of truth, thus amounting to a deflationary view. Others promote opposing interpretations. I argue that by relying on Tarski’s semantic conception of truth, Quine’s disquotational account inherits a commitment to classical correspondence intuitions. Based on this, Quine posits a firm con…

Disagreement, Points of View, and Truth-Relativism

2022

AbstractTruth-relativism is the claim that the truth of statements is dependent on the context in which they are made. In this article, truth-relativism is considered as a way to explain disagreements. Viewpoint relativism, a recent version of truth-relativism, is introduced as a useful framework to analyse how truth-relativism approaches disagreements. Viewpoint relativism is based on contextual semantics and the logic of viewpoint, which is a two-dimensional modal logic. In viewpoint relativism, the central concept is a point of view in relation to which truth claims are evaluated. Viewpoint relativism is compared to the truth-relativism of Peter Lasersohn and John MacFarlane. Finally, tr…

Filosofia, mediazione, violenza. L'utilità del vero per il linguaggio (da Nietzsche ai Greci)

2017

The essays starts from Nietzsche's analysis of ancient Rhetorics as pursued in his lecture courses and explores his notion of language as set of metaphors in order to outline two models of truth that can be traced back in greek thought: 1. "judiciary" truth as refutation of the opposite opinion and 2. truth as will to integrate the opposition into a non-violent form of knowledge and agreement.

Sharing and Other Illusions : Asymmetry in "Moments of Meeting"

2023

This chapter tackles the question of interpersonal understanding from the point of view of so-called “moments of meeting.” Coined by Daniel Stern and his colleagues, this term refers to specific and particularly intense experiential situations, where two (or more) persons attune to each other’s affective experiences, thus “cocreating” an experiential area that exists to these two individuals exclusively—a “shared private world,” as Stern puts it (Stern, 2004). While moments of meeting have attracted a lot of interest in research on psychotherapeutic change, clinical effectivity, and outcome, the usefulness of the concept in nonclinical discussions has been overlooked. The chapter fills in t…

Modelling and analysing oriented fibrous structures

2014

Abstract. A mathematical model for fibrous structures using a direction dependent scaling law is presented. The orientation of fibrous nets (e.g. paper) is analysed with a method based on the curvelet transform. The curvelet-based orientation analysis has been tested successfully on real data from paper samples: the major directions of fibrefibre orientation can apparently be recovered. Similar results are achieved in tests on data simulated by the new model, allowing a comparison with ground truth. peerReviewed

Žurnālistu reprezentācija filmās "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" un "Nothing But the Truth"

2022
