Afrikka on ainoa maanosa, missä suurin osa lapsista aloittaa koulun vieraalla kielellä. Mosambikissa ensimmäinen äidinkieleen perustuva kaksikielisen perusopetuksen kokeiluhanke alkoi vuonna 1993. Kaksikielistä opetusta (bantukieli ja portugali) on sittemmin järjestetty eri puolilla maata, ja sen tulokset ovat olleet myönteisiä. Tällä hetkellä päättäjillä vaikuttaa olevan sekä poliittista tahtoa että käytännön keinoja opetuksen laajentamiseksi koko maan kattavaksi. Mosambik on ollut suurimpia avunsaajia Suomen kahdenvälisestä kehitysavusta, jota kohdistetaan myös kaksikieliseen opetukseen. nonPeerReviewed

Tutkielmassa esitellään käyttötarkoitus biomassan estimoinnille ja vertaillaan kolmea regressiomenetelmää, lineaarista regressiota, k:n lähimmän naapurin menetelmää sekä tukivektoriregressiota. Tutkielmassa esitellään myös aineisto ja aineistoon suoritetut muunnokset.

Check in–check out (CICO) is a widely used and studied behavioural intervention. Although CICO is an effective way to support pupils’ behaviour in a school context, not all pupils benefit from basic CICO. A single-case experimental study was designed to evaluate the effects of CICO Plus support (CICO Plus) for participants whose behaviour was determined to be non-responsive to basic CICO. Surrogate assisted interactive multiobjective optimization in energy system design of buildings

In this paper, we develop a novel evolutionary interactive method called interactive K-RVEA, which is suitable for computationally expensive problems. We use surrogate models to replace the original expensive objective functions to reduce the computation time. Typically, in interactive methods, a decision maker provides some preferences iteratively and the optimization algorithm narrows the search according to those preferences. Infertility as a lonely struggle? : Coping stories of previously infertile women

In this narrative study, we explored the meaning infertile women attribute to social support in coping with their infertility-related challenges. Written accounts and episodic interviews with 26 previously infertile Finnish women were used as data. Two different coping story types emerged: coping alone and coping with support. In the coping alone type women neither sought nor received support. Their coping appeared as a lonely struggle. In the coping with stories, women turned to their spouses, peers, or professionals, but still emphasized that they would have needed more support. Background and aims: The level of physical activity often declines in old age, although many older people would like to be more active than what they are capable of. This leads to unmet physical activity need, the feeling that one’s level of physical activity is inadequate, which is a manifestation of disparity in physical activity in old age. The accumulation of risk factors, including mobility limitations, low socioeconomic status (SES) and lack of social support may increase disparity in physical activity.
