Mobile money and the impact of mobile phone regulatory enforcement among the urban poor in Tanzania

Mobile money provides a tool for survival, particularly in urban conditions shaped by city regulations that make microvending difficult for the poor. An analysis of 165 interviews conducted in two low-income neighborhoods in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania over 8 years demonstrates how interlocked layers of technology and interaction make mobile money services semiformal. Promotions and Earnings – Gender or Merit? Evidence from Longitudinal Personnel Data

This study examines the determinants of promotions, performance evaluations and earnings using unique longitudinal data from the personnel records of a large university. The study focuses on the role of gender in remuneration using, first, information on the complexity ratings of job tasks to define promotions on job ladders and, second, information on objective individual productivity. The study finds that individual research productivity was an important determinant of promotions and earnings. Tässä pro gradu –tutkielmassa haluttiin selvittää, havaitaanko yksilöiden tulotasossa poikkeamia, jos heillä on yksi tai kaksi haitallisen terveyskäyttäytymisen muotoa verrattuna yksilöihin, joilla näitä ei ole. Empiirisessä analyysissä hyödynnettiin kansainvälisen International Social Survey Programme –vertailututkimusohjelman (ISSP) Suomen osa-aineistoa vuodelta 2011. Tarkastelun kohteena oli työikäinen aikuisväestö (n = 904), ja haitallisesta terveyskäyttäytymisestä mielenkiinnon kohteena oli runsas alkoholin kulutus, päivittäinen tupakointi, lihavuus sekä fyysinen passiivisuus. Tuloerojen ja talouskasvun välinen relaatio kymmenessä kehittyneessä taloudessa vuosina 1950 - 2010

Tässä pro gradu -työssä tarkastellaan tuloerojen ja talouskasvun välistä yhteyttä kymmenen kehittyneen talouden muodostamalla maapaneelilla, jonka havainnot ulottuvat viime vuosisadan puolivälistä vuoteen 2010. Talouskasvua mitataan reaalisen BKT/capitan vuosittaisella muutoksella, tuloeroja puolestaan ylimmän persentiilin osuudella talouden tuloista. Työssä sovelletaan vektoriautoregressiivistä lähestymistapaa lyhyen aikavälin relaation estimoimiseksi. Pitkän aikavälin yhteyttä tarkastellaan tutkimalla muuttujien välistä yhteisintegraatiorelaatiota, ja hyödyntämällä dynaamista pienimmän neliösumman menetelmää varsinaisten pitkän aikavälin riippuvuussuhteiden estimoimiseksi.
