Individual and combinatory effects of voluntary wheel running and sActRIIB-Fc administration on redox-balance in mdx mice

2015

Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy (DMD) is X-chromosome linked muscle wasting dis-ease. It is caused by a mutation in the gene coding protein called dystrophin leading to premature death and significantly impairing the quality of life of DMD patients. Oxida-tive stress is a contributing factor in the pathology of DMD. Light intensity exercise and interventions that promote sirtuin (SIRT) 1 activity have been shown to be antioxidant for mdx mice and to ameliorate the symptoms of DMD. Also blocking activin receptor IIB (ActRIIB) ligands has been shown in some, but not all studies to improve the pa-thology of the DMD. The purpose of this study was to find out the individual and com-binatory effect…

Quality of life in patients with malignant ascites during catumaxomab treatment: Results from the CASIMAS trial.

2012

e13095^ Background: Malignant Ascites (MA) is associated with a poor prognosis and limited palliative treatment options. To demonstrate the value of a new treatment the assessment of quality of life (QoL) is of particular importance. Following the demonstration of catumaxomab’s potential to stabilize QoL and prolong the time to first deterioration of QoL, results from CASIMAS give evidence that the QoL of patients remains unaffected during catumaxomab treatment Methods: In a two-arm, open-label, multicentre phase II/III study 219 patients were randomized to catumaxomab plus premedication of 25 mg prednisolone (111 pts) or to catumaxomab alone (108 pts) QoL was measured using the EQ-5D visu…

Soft tissue sarcomas in the precision medicine era: new advances in clinical practice and future perspectives

2018

Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) represent a rare and heterogeneous group of solid tumours derived from mesenchymal progenitors and account for 1% of all adult malignancies. Although in the last decade anthracycline-based chemotherapy single agent or in combinations has been able to improve clinical benefits, prognosis is still poor and STSs represent an important unmet medical need. Continuous advances in cancer genetics and genomics have contributed to change management paradigms of STSs as it occurred for other solid tumours. Several treatments have been recently developed with the specific aim of targeting different cell pathways and immune-checkpoints that have been recognized to drive tumo…

Effects of a Home‐Based Physical Rehabilitation Program on Tibial Bone Structure, Density, and Strength After Hip Fracture: A Secondary Analysis of a…

2019

Abstract Weight‐bearing physical activity may decrease or prevent bone deterioration after hip fracture. This study investigated the effects of a home‐based physical rehabilitation program on tibial bone traits in older hip fracture patients. A population‐based clinical sample of men and women operated for hip fracture (mean age 80 years, 78% women) was randomly assigned into an intervention (n = 40) and a standard care control group (n = 41) on average 10 weeks postfracture. The intervention group participated in a 12‐month home‐based rehabilitation intervention, including evaluation and modification of environmental hazards, guidance for safe walking, nonpharmacological pain management, m…
