Collisional Broadening, Line Shifting, and Line Mixing in the Stimulated Raman 2-v2 Q-Branch of CH4
1991
0021-9606; Self-, argon-, and helium-broadening coefficients have been measured for 13 lines in the 2v2 Raman Q branch of CH4 using stimulated inverse Raman spectroscopy. The linewidths clearly show the symmetry-state dependence characteristic of pressure broadening, and inelastic processes in general, involving spherical-top molecules. Pressure-induced line shifts have also been measured for these features in pure methane. The pressure-shift coefficients do not display the symmetry-state dependence found for the linewidths. By applying the Rosenkranz perturbation treatment to a pair of collisionally mixed lines, we have been able to obtain an estimate of individual state-to-state contribut…

Collisional Broadening of Rotational Lines in the Stimulated Raman Pentad Q-Branch of CD4
1992
Self- and argon-broadening coefficients are reported for a number of Raman Q-branch transitions in the nu(1) and nu(2) + nu(4) bands of (C-12)D4 at room temperature (296 K). The coefficients display a variation with j and with C exp n (symmetry species A, E, F) that is essentially independent of collision partner and which is similar to the j- and C exp n-dependence found in previous measurements of the IR line-broadening coefficients. The rotationally inelastic collision rates previously measured by Foy et al. (1988) for (C-13)D4 (V4 = 0, 1) in collision with (C-13)D4 or Ar account for only a part of the Raman broadening rate, suggesting possibly significant contributions to the linewidths…
Multispectral integral imaging acquisition and processing using a monochrome camera and a liquid crystal tunable filter
2012
This paper presents an acquisition system and a procedure to capture 3D scenes in different spectral bands. The acquisition system is formed by a monochrome camera, and a Liquid Crystal Tunable Filter (LCTF) that allows to acquire images at different spectral bands in the [480, 680]nm wavelength interval. The Synthetic Aperture Integral Imaging acquisition technique is used to obtain the elemental images for each wavelength. These elemental images are used to computationally obtain the reconstruction planes of the 3D scene at different depth planes. The 3D profile of the acquired scene is also obtained using a minimization of the variance of the contribution of the elemental images at each …
Tunable dual-wavelength thulium-doped fiber laser in the range from 2067 to 2073.5 nm
2017
A tunable dual-wavelength lineal cavity Tm-doped fiber laser is presented. The generation of the laser lines is based on the use of cascaded fiber Bragg gratings and a Hi-Bi fiber optic loop mirror.
Simple digital system for tuning and long-term frequency stabilization of a CW Ti:Sapphire laser
2015
We have implemented a simple digital system for long-term frequency stabilization and locking to an arbitrary wavelength of the single-frequency ring CW Ti:Sapphire laser. This system is built using two confocal Fabry-Perot cavities, one of which is used to narrow the short-term linewidth of the laser and the other to improve the long-term stability of the laser frequency. The length of the second cavity is stabilized using the radiation from an external-cavity diode laser locked to an atomic transition. Our system is an improvement of a commercial Tekhnoscan laser lock. This system has been successfully used in our experiments on high-resolution laser spectroscopy of ultracold rubidium Ryd…
Tunable narrowband fiber laser with feedback based on whispering gallery mode resonances of a cylindrical microresonator.
2013
Narrowband filtering based on whispering gallery modes of a slightly tapered cylindrical optical microresonator was used to implement a tunable narrowband erbium-doped fiber laser. The laser can be set to emit a single longitudinal cavity mode (single frequency), although the laser cavity is a few meters long. In the single-frequency regime the laser can emit a maximum power of 0.380 mW with a linewidth <35 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 50 dB. Tunability is achieved by sliding the excitation point along the microcylinder. A tuning range of 1.16 nm is demonstrated.
Active Q-switched distributed feedback erbium-doped fiber lasers
2005
This letter presents a distributed feedback fiber laser that operates in an actively controlled Q-switched regime. The laser is based on a Bragg grating made in an erbium-doped fiber. The grating has a defect induced by a magnetostrictive transducer that configures the distributed feedback laser structure. The phase shift generated by the defect can be dynamically modified by an electric current, permitting active Q-switching of the laser. The laser generates pulses of 75 ns duration and the repetition rate can be continuously adjusted from 0 to 10 kHz.
4W continuous-wave narrow-linewidth tunable solid-state laser source at 546nm by externally frequency doubling a ytterbium-doped single-mode fiber la…
2009
A high-power continuous-wave coherent light source at 545.5nm is described. We use 8.3W from a solid-state ytterbium-doped single-mode fiber oscillator/amplifier system as input into an external frequency doubling stage. This system produces up to 4.1 W of stable green single-frequency laser radiation. We characterize the light source by performing absorption spectroscopy on iodine across the full tuning range of the fiber laser and saturation spectroscopy on one strong iodine line of the doppler-broadened spectrum.
Dissipative Solitons, a Novel Paradigm for Mode-locked Lasers
2013
The concept of a "dissipative soliton" provides an excellent framework for understanding complex mode-locked laser pulse dynamics from a unified picture. It has stimulated innovative laser cavity designs in the past few years. This tutorial lecture provides conceptual pictures illustrated with universal dynamics, highlights recent achievements and prospects for mode-locked laser development.
