Tämä julkaisu, X2, on osa Jyväskylän yliopiston Agora Centerin Innovaatiokeskittymää tukevia keihäänkärkihankkeita. Amazon was the world's top Research and Development (R&D) firm in 2017. Its R&D investment was double that of 2015, five times that of 2012, and ten times that of 2011. Such a rapid and notable increase in R&D investment has raised the question of a new R&D definition and focus in the digital economy, which Amazon insists includes both “routine or periodic alterations” (traditionally classified as non-R&D) and “significant improvement” (classified as R&D). Competitive Pressure and Diversification into Green R&D

Based on representative firm-level survey data for Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, we investigate the relationship between quick obsolescence of products, unpredictable technological development, and easy substitution of products and the probability to diversify into green R&D. We find that product obsolescence and technological uncertainty are positively related with green R&D diversification. These types of competition are usually positively related with low barriers to market entry. Hence, policies that support open markets should stimulate diversification into green R&D. peerReviewed

Tutkimuksen rahoituksen kohdentaminen on yksi tiedepolitiikan ikuisuuskysymyksiä. Rahoitusta ja kohdentamista sekä perustana olevia rakenteita tulee uudistaa yhteiskunnan kehityksen ja muutosten mukana. Oikeastaan tämän tulisi tapahtua muutoksia ennakoiden. Pekka Neittaanmäki luo artikkelissaan mielenkiintoisen katsauksen tutkimusrahoitukseen ja siihen liittyvään tutkijankoulutukseen. AbstractIn Industry-Academia Collaborations (IAC) both academic, scientific research results and industrial practitioner findings and experiences are produced. Both types of knowledge should be gathered, codified, and disseminated efficiently and effectively. This paper investigates a recent (2014–2017) large-scale IAC R&D&I program case (Need for Speed, N4S) from a learning perspective. It was one of the programs in the Finnish SHOK (Strategic Centres of Science, Technology, and Innovation) system.
