This article describes a nexus analysis of the lengthy, complex process of negotiating access to schools for a research project surveying 1,002 children (aged 9–12 years) about their digital and language practices. The analysis distinguished layers of adult-centered gatekeeping, each of which needed to be tackled in sequence. Bottlenecks particularly arose at the gatekeeping stage, in which superintendents of schools decided whether to grant research access to schools. PurposeThis paper discusses the challenges that two doctoral researchers faced while researching religious minorities and women in a culturally sensitive society such as Pakistan. Their shared interest in sensitive topics related to gender and minorities in Pakistan led both researchers to collaborate in this study to provide a better understanding of issues in qualitative research in the same research context. Purpose This brief note sheds light on the links between Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) codes and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Design/methodology/approach Three alternative methods based on keyword overlap to establish links between SDGs and JEL codes are presented. Findings These simple linkages illustrate that the themes of SDGs have corresponding closely related JEL classification codes. Vaikuttava ammatillinen pedagogiikka on Haaga-Helia ammattikorkeakoulussa uusi tutkimusalue, josta intressi tälle artikkelille sai alkunsa. Ammatillisen koulutuksen tutkimuksen nykytilakatsaukselle on kuitenkin laajempi tarve. Vaikuttavan ammatillisen pedagogiikan tutkimuksella tarkoitetaan työelämälähtöistä soveltavaa tutkimusta ja kehittämistä. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan ammattikasvatustieteen, ammatillisen koulutuksen ja pedagogiikan tutkimuksen nykytilaa yliopistoissa ja ammatillisissa opettajakorkeakouluissa.
