The purpose of academic advising is to help students with developing educational plans that support their academic career and personal goals, and to provide information and guidance on studies. Planning and management of the students’ study path is the main joint activity in advising. Based on a study log of passed courses, we propose to use robust, prototype-based clustering to identify a set of actual study path profiles. Kyseessä on etnografinen tutkimus, jossa tarkastellaan opettajien tieto- ja viestintäteknisiä taitoja ja opetuskäyttöä sekä tutoroinnin merkitystä niiden kehittämiseen. Tutkimus analysoi nykytilannetta ja lähtökohtia, joiden perusteella opettajien tieto- ja viestintäteknisiä taitoja voitaisiin kehittää. Tutkimuksen teoreettisena lähtökohtana on tieto- ja viestintäteknologia perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelmassa. Näkemys korostaa opettajan merkitystä ja ammattitaidon kehittämistä. Mobilizing ‘context’: Vocabulary checks in ESL tutoring sessions

This study investigates the practice of unplanned and emergent vocabulary checks, i.e. turns through which a speaker explicitly checks whether the recipient knows a word, in small-group tutorial instruction. The data are video-recorded English as a second language (ESL) tutoring sessions between a native English speaker tutor and ESL students at an urban community college in the United States. By drawing on conversation analysis, we analyze how vocabulary checks emerge sequentially and with the help of contextual interactional resources.
