Exponential sums related to Maass forms

2019

We estimate short exponential sums weighted by the Fourier coefficients of a Maass form. This requires working out a certain transformation formula for non-linear exponential sums, which is of independent interest. We also discuss how the results depend on the growth of the Fourier coefficients in question. As a byproduct of these considerations, we can slightly extend the range of validity of a short exponential sum estimate for holomorphic cusp forms. The short estimates allow us to reduce smoothing errors. In particular, we prove an analogue of an approximate functional equation previously proven for holomorphic cusp form coefficients. As an application of these, we remove the logarithm …

Nuclear parton distribution functions with uncertainties in a general mass variable flavor number scheme

2020

In this article we obtain a new set of nuclear parton distribution functions (nuclear PDFs) at next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative QCD. The common nuclear deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) data analyzed in our study are complemented by the available charged-current neutrino DIS data with nuclear targets and data from Drell-Yan cross-section measurements for several nuclear targets. In addition, the most recent DIS data from the Jefferson Lab CLAS and Hall C experiments are also added to our data sample. For these specific datasets, we consider the impact of target mass corrections and higher twist effects which are expected to be important in the r…

Two-twistor particle models and free massive higher spin fields

2015

We present D=3 and D=4 models for massive particles moving in a new type of enlarged spacetime, with D-1 additional vector coordinates, which after quantization lead to the towers of massive higher spin (HS) free fields. Two classically equivalent formulations are presented: one with a hybrid spacetime/bispinor geometry and a second described by a free two-twistor dynamics with constraints. After quantization in the D=3 and D=4 cases, the wave functions are given as functions on the SL(2,R) and SL(2,C) group manifolds respectively, and describe arbitrary on-shell momenta and spin degrees of freedom. Finally, the D=6 case and possible supersymmetric extensions are mentioned.

BASIC TWIST QUANTIZATION OF osp(1|2) AND κ-DEFORMATION OF D = 1 SUPERCONFORMAL MECHANICS

2003

The twisting function describing a nonstandard (super-Jordanian) quantum deformation of $osp(1|2)$ is given in explicite closed form. The quantum coproducts and universal R-matrix are presented. The non-uniqueness of the twisting function as well as two real forms of the deformed $osp(1|2)$ superalgebras are considered. One real quantum $osp(1|2)$ superalgebra is interpreted as describing the $\kappa$-deformation of D=1, N=1 superconformal algebra, which can be applied as a symmetry algebra of N=1 superconformal mechanics.

The geometry of N=3 AdS4 in massive IIA

2018

The geometry of the ${\cal N} = 3$, SO(4)--invariant, AdS$_4$ solution of massive type IIA supergravity that uplifts from the ${\cal N} = 3 $ vacuum of $D=4$ ${\cal N} = 8$ dyonic ISO(7) supergravity is investigated. Firstly, a $D=4$, SO(4)--invariant restricted duality hierarchy is constructed and used to uplift the entire, dynamical SO(4)--invariant sector to massive type IIA. The resulting consistent uplift formulae are used to obtain a new local expression for the ${\cal N} = 3 $ AdS$_4$ solution in massive IIA and analyse its geometry. Locally, the internal $S^6$ geometry corresponds to a warped fibration of $S^2$ and a hemisphere of $S^4$. This can be regarded as a warped generalisati…

Twistor transform inddimensions and a unifying role for twistors

2005

Twistors in four dimensions d=4 have provided a convenient description of massless particles with any spin, and this led to remarkable computational techniques in Yang-Mills field theory. Recently it was shown that the same d=4 twistor provides also a unified description of an assortment of other particle dynamical systems, including special examples of massless or massive particles, relativistic or non-relativistic, interacting or non-interacting, in flat space or curved spaces. In this paper, using 2T-physics as the primary theory, we derive the general twistor transform in d-dimensions that applies to all cases, and show that these more general twistor transforms provide d dimensional ho…

D=11massless superparticle covariant quantization, pure spinor BRST charge and hidden symmetries

2007

We consider the covariant quantization of the D=11 massless superparticle (M0-brane) in the spinor moving frame or twistor-like Lorentz harmonics formulation. The action involves the set of 16 constrained 32 component Majorana spinors, the spinor Lorentz harmonics parametrizing (as homogeneous coordinates, modulo gauge symmetries) the celestial sphere S9. There presence allows us to separate covariantly the first and the second class constraints of the model. After taking into account the second class constraints by means of Dirac brackets and after further reducing the first class constraints algebra, the system is described in terms of a simple BRST charge associated to the d=1, n=16 supe…

Tales of 1001 gluons

2016

These lectures are centred around tree-level scattering amplitudes in pure Yang-Mills theories, the most prominent example is given by the tree-level gluon amplitudes of QCD. I will discuss several ways of computing these amplitudes, illustrating in this way recent developments in perturbative quantum field theory. Topics covered in these lectures include colour decomposition, spinor and twistor methods, off- and on-shell recursion, MHV amplitudes and MHV expansion, the Grassmannian and the amplituhedron, the scattering equations and the CHY representation. At the end of these lectures there will be an outlook on the relation between pure Yang-Mills amplitudes and scattering amplitudes in p…

Control of apterous by vestigial drives indirect flight muscle development in drosophila

2003

0012-1606 (Print) Journal Article Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't; Drosophila thoracic muscles are comprised of both direct flight muscles (DFMs) and indirect flight muscles (IFMs). The IFMs can be further subdivided into dorsolongitudinal muscles (DLMs) and dorsoventral muscles (DVMs). The correct patterning of each category of muscles requires the coordination of specific executive regulatory programs. DFM development requires key regulatory genes such as cut (ct) and apterous (ap), whereas IFM development requires vestigial (vg). Using a new vg(null) mutant, we report that a total absence of vg leads to DLM degeneration through an apoptotic process and to a total absence of DVMs in the …
