This dissertation is intended to study information technology (IT) users’ psychological states and behaviors. It consists of four essays. The first essay examines how people react to social networking services (SNS). In this essay, we attempted to extend the existing model, which includes dedication- and constraint-based mechanisms, by additionally including the obligation-based mechanism underlying SNS-related behavior. The uncertainties and growing social inequality young adults face in the labour market call for research on the link between young women’s expectations about working life and the real options they have in seeking to combine work with care. Tutkimuksen näkökulma on aikuissosialityössä tehtävissä tilannearvioinneissa nuoren aikuisen kokemusta korostaen. Nuorten aikuisten kokemusta tutkitaan fenomenologs-hermeneuttisella tutkimusotteella osallisuuden ja toimijuuden viitekehyksessä. Aikuissosiaalityössä tilannearviointi näyttäytyy kahdella tasolla; yhteiskunnallisella tasolla sosiaalityön tehtävä on sosiaalistaa nuoria yhteiskuntaan, tilannearviointi on sosiaalityöntekijän työväline. Global workers have long contended with the challenges of working across geographical, temporal, and cultural boundaries enabled by communication technologies. However, the global work research has rarely intersected with the literature on work–home boundary management—which has been brought to the forefront due to the forced move to remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic. Latent profile analysis (LPA) is a person-centered method commonly used in organizational research to identify homogeneous subpopulations of employees within a heterogeneous population. However, in the case of nested data structures, such as employees nested in work departments, multilevel techniques are needed. Multilevel LPA (MLPA) enables adequate modeling of subpopulations in hierarchical data sets. Tero Vartiaisen väitöskirja kuvaa informaatioteknologian ammattilaisiksi opiskelevien ja työelämässä toimivien IT-ammattilaisten yhteistyöprojektissa kohtaamia moraalisia ongelmia.
