Candida albicans-epithelial interactions: dissecting the roles of active penetration, induced endocytosis and host factors on the infection process
2012
International audience; Candida albicans frequently causes superficial infections by invading and damaging epithelial cells, but may also cause systemic infections by penetrating through epithelial barriers. C. albicans is a remarkable pathogen because it can invade epithelial cells via two distinct mechanisms: induced endocytosis, analogous to facultative intracellular enteropathogenic bacteria, and active penetration, similar to plant pathogenic fungi. Here we investigated the contributions of the two invasion routes of C. albicans to epithelial invasion. Using selective cellular inhibition approaches and differential fluorescence microscopy, we demonstrate that induced endocytosis contri…

2015
The followers of the Negritude accustomed us to the confrontation between Africa and Europe through the staging of a character-dreaming of Europe with stereotyped images of France conveyed by the colonial school-who is confronted with the conditions of exile during his stay in Europe and the remoteness of motherland which bears all his aspirations. But for the writers of Migritude, emigration to Europe takes a different turn; it is no longer motivated by a desire for discovery but an escape from the native land which has become repulsive, while Europe is in the eyes of migrants, an attractive place embellished by the stories of immigrants who, have already made the journey. The present rese…
Hugh MacDiarmid’s Typescript ‘Hugh MacDiarmid and the Scottish Landscape, by Valda Trevlyn’ : Landscape as Sign
2013
International audience; In a 1911 letter, the young Hugh MacDiarmid told his professor, George Ogilvie, of his love of mountaineering: “I am constantly crossing mountains, by unutterably rocky tracks”, foretelling his life-long fascination for the Scottish landscape. MacDiarmid’s nationalist use of the Scottish scenery has already been much commented upon. However, we would like to introduce an unpublished typescript entitled “Hugh MacDiarmid and the Scottish Landscape, by Valda Trevlyn” . The text was undoubtedly written by MacDiarmid himself, not by his wife, Valda, in 1939. Projected as “a study of the descriptive elements” of his “vision of Scotland”, this chaotic prose work mostly cons…
2011
In this paper, a study of the links between the lexical stereotype of a word and the idioms containing this same word is proposed. French idioms related to the words œil/ yeux and oreille(s) [(eye(s) and ear(s)] enrich the original stereotype associated to these words, mainly through two strategies: either the idioms indicate that the stereotype is not confirmed; either they indicate that it is highly verified, in an exceptional way or degree. The study of the equivalent Spanish idioms confirms this working, as well as the nature and number of the strategies implied.
2011
The commercial letter constitutes for every organization a professional external communication tool with a twofold purpose: to incite the customer to order and to develop the customer relationship. Indeed, developing customer loyalty is today the basis of any commercial approach. Companies have to develop a close relationship with each of their customers quickly and remotely: each communication medium has to make this relationship strategy visible to the customers. In the mail order business, the commercial documents which are regularly sent to customers are the basis on which the construction of the customer relationship rests. This study analyses the strategic use of stereotypes in a corp…
LA DISCRIMINATION " PRIVATIVE " DANS L'ACTIVITÉ EXPLICATIVE
2005
2013
This doctoral research investigates how categorization and stereotypes are conveyed when it comes to ethnic discrimination in basket-ball. The first study (racial stacking which was performed in the Pro National Basket-ball League A in France) shows that white players are more likely to be over-represented when it comes to the position of point guard considered as central in regard to the performance. The available evidence produced by the second phase of the research highlights the existence of categorization (racial stacking), of stereotypes (which conveys the belief that some people possess certain genetic and ethnic traits) and of biased discourse (more favorable implication in the disc…
