The setting of “The Transition of Juan Romero” – the short story by Howard Phillips Lovecraft, who was the originator of modern American horror fiction – is “the gold mine in the Cactus Range”. Drawing on the theories of Carl Gustav Jung, the author of the present interpretation amplifies the cultural dimensions of Lovecraft’s text, giving prominence to its origin from the ancient myths of the Aztecs, and using the so-called psychological alchemy to show the archetypal symbolism and structure of the story. Reconceptualising the Role of Talk in CLIL

This theoretical paper offers a reconceptualisation of talk in CLIL based on sociocultural and dialogic theories of education. Building on these educational theories and the experiences of an on-going CLIL project, this paper presents a pedagogical model for the navigation of the ‘talkscape’ of the CLIL classroom. This model comprises a total of seven talk-types: organisational, social, critical, expert, exploratory, meta and pedagogic. Abstract Two years after its official start, the national vegetation database VegItaly, a collaborative project supported by the Italian scientific community and developed by a large group of scientists, is presented. This article offers a concise overview of the content of the database, currently consisting of 31,100 vegetation plot, including published and unpublished data. Some basic statistics are analysed; for example, data distribution in space and time, represented vegetation types expressed as physiognomic categories. Although cereals and oil seed crops are very developed in Burgundy, the area of grain legumes cultivation is small. Concerning monogastric livestock, the region is characterised by a medium size poultry production focussed on markets under quality and origin signs (SIQO) and a relatively small pig production.
