The Network Balance Realized by Routing Organization System

2011

In the presented paper, we propose to exploit routing organization for the purpose of managing network resources. According to our assumptions, we have the same quantity of materials, objects, tokens, tools etc. at our disposal in every node of the network. During network operation we must distribute resources between these nodes. It should be carried out as instantaneously and as economically as possible. Multi-Agent Systems are also used to deal with this kind of tasks and the centralised algorithms presented in this paper are to be used to measure the efficiency of the distributed MAS solution. From the logistical point of view, we have a sequence of stages with different states of token…

Waging War Against Mechanical Man. Frank H. Knight's Critique of Behavioristic Psychology

2002

The major theme of this essay is to explore the rationale of Knight's campaign against the adoption of behaviorism in economics. We also attempt to qualify whether Knight's methodological criticism may somewhat undermine his recently acquired credentials as an institutionalist economist. In so doing we focus our attention in particular, but not exclusively, on his debate with the institutionalist Morris A. Copeland. In the first section we try to explain why behaviorism gained consensus among institutional economists, and we also provide a brief overview of the main behavioristic themes as they were presented in contemporary economic literature. The second section is devoted to Knight's rea…

Eight-membered Rings with Two Heteroatoms 1,3

2008

This chapter deals with heterocine rings with two heteroatoms in a 1,3-relationship, namely 1,3-diazocine, 2H-1,3-oxazocine, 2H-1,3-thiazocine, 4H-1,3-dioxocin, and 4H-1,3-dithiocin. On the 4H-1,3-oxathiocin ring system, belonging to the diheterocine family, in the past decade, no chemistry was reported. This chapter covers the literature from 1996 to 2006 and also reports those articles published in 1995 which were not reported in CHEC-II(1996). In this edition, in addition to the uncondensed derivatives, eight-membered 1,2-heterocycles fused to five-, six-, and seven-membered carbocycles or heterocycles are covered. Bridged heterocines, which actually constitute the majority of the compou…

A novel flash glucose monitoring system in patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2: which are the pieces of evidence for payer decision-makers?

2018

A rigorous health technology assessment is necessary to evaluate a new technology. However, healthcare regulatory agencies have less restrictive rules about medical devices, despite some recent warnings about this relevant matter. The evaluation should have at least two key issues, which require attention. The first one is its effectiveness, and the second one is its economic sustainability. In this paper, we deal with a novel glucose-sensing technology as a case study to examine the matter in depth. An evidence-based point of view is used to highlight this important issue.

The influence of non-verbal body language on sport performance in professional tennis

2019

The main objective of this study was to analyse the relationship between players´ non-verbal body language and their performance in sport. The sample consists of a total of 477 actions from 40 players competing in the ATP Tour. All actions were taken from tie-breaks in official tournaments. The categories that were analyzed were previous performance, dominant non-verbal body language, submissive non-verbal body language, and performance later on. Results show how the players´ non verbal body language impacts on their performance later on.  Thus, we can conclude that following dominant non-verbal body language, the probabilities of better performance in the next point are greater than follow…

Branding y personalidad de la marca visual

2021

A Study into the Integration of ICT into a Business Management Course: Challenges and Achievements

2012

Nowadays, the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) play an increasingly important role in education. Indeed, ICT are considered as very useful pedagogic tools, and multimedia resources are constantly being created, updated and shared by university members worldwide. This paper deals with a case of study exploring the way in which the integration of ICT impacts learning in the context of a business management course at the Universitat de València (UV), in Spain. The results of the study point out the need for academic staff and students to acquire the appropriate knowledge and to develop the skills required for an efficient and effective use of ICT in higher education. Protocol to compare column performance applied to hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography

2019

Abstract The lack of retention of highly polar solutes in liquid chromatography with reversed phase columns (RPLC) can be solved through the use of the hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatographic (HILIC) mode. Due to the complexity of the separation mechanisms in HILIC and the different factors that may have significant influence, the selection of the appropriate stationary phase plays a fundamental role in the development of analytical procedures to obtain good performance. In this work, the chromatographic performance of bare silica and six polar stationary phases with different functionalized groups (with neutral, cationic, anionic and zwitterionic character) are investigated. The beh…

Study on the efficiency of assembled packed microbore columns in HPLC

1984

Stainless steel columns (internally mirror-finished, 125 or 250nm in length, of bore 1.0 or 1.6mm) were slurry-packed with 5µm and 4µm reversed phase silicas (Hypersil ODS, LiChrosorb RP-8 and RP-18 and Superspher RP-8. The HPLC equipment consisted of a pump LC5A (Shimadzu) or a pump 2150 (LKB Instruments), a rheodyne valve 7413 with loops of 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0mm3 and a Jasco-Uvidec 100-II UV detector, variously with one of three specially constructed cells of 0.2, 0.4 and 1.3mm3 volume. Columns were assembled using two types of coupling device employing a stainless steel capillary of 0.12mm bore. The effect of sample volume, design of coupling device in assembled column, detector cell volume…
