Locked in Inferiority? : The Positions of Estonian Construction Workers in the Finnish Migrant Labour Regime

Abstract The aim of this article is to analyse how different policies and actors have structured the current migrant labour regime in the Finnish construction sector and to discuss the consequences for migrants. Our study shows that a strong industrial relations system such as in Finland is able to curb the posting of workers regime (the most disadvantageous for migrant workers). The position of labour migrants has become more diverse in the segmented labour market, although it remains inferior compared to that of the natives. Suomalaisten suhtautuminen lasten kotihoidon tukeen

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus on selvittää, mitä mieltä lasten kotihoidon tukijärjestelmästä Suomessa ollaan ja tunnistetaanko siihen liittyvää naisen työmarkkina-aseman heikentymistä. Kotihoidon tuki on yleisin hoitovapaan muoto ja sitä käytetään lähes joka perheessä, jossa on alle kolmevuotiaita lapsia. Tukijakson keston pituus vaihtelee paljon ja siitä on kehittynyt erityisesti naisia ja naisten asemaa koskettava perhe-etuus. Lasten kotihoidon tuella on Suomessa poikkeuksellisen vankka institutionalisoitunut asema ja tukijärjestelmän olemassaoloa perustellaan perheiden valinnanvapauden suurella merkityksellä. Can fathers' leave take-up dismantle gendered parental responsibilities? Evidence from Finland

Objective: This article reports on the associations of fathers' leave take-up with parents' care responsibilities when their child is around four years old. Background: In families with small children women continue to do more parental care work than men. Several studies, however, have suggested that fathers who take up parental leave also take more responsibility for childcare. Negotiating parenting practices: the arguments and justifications of Finnish couples

This article explores Finnish different-sex couples’ (n = 12) negotiations on their parental division of labour. Theoretically, the article is based on the literature on gendered parenting practices and relational negotiations. Our discourse analysis reveals how the couples produced ‘togetherness’ and ‘our family’ by representing their care practices as agreements, irrespective of whether the care was described as equally shared or distinctly gendered.
