Unilateral Maximal Isometric Hex Bar Pull Test: Within-Session Reliability and Lower Body Force Production in Male and Female Freeski Athletes

2021

The aim of the study was to (1) assess the within-session reliability of a unilateral isometric hex bar pull (UIHBP) maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) test and, (2) determine unilateral isometric absolute peak force (PFabs) and relative peak force (PF) values in freeski athletes. Twenty-one male and eight female academy to national team freeskiers performed the novel UIHBP MVC task on a force plate and PFabs and relative PF were assessed (1000 Hz). Within-session measures of PFabs offered high reliability on left and right limbs for males (ICC = 0.91–0.94, CV = 2.6–2.2%) and females (ICC = 0.94–0.94, CV = 1.4–1.6%), while relative PF measures showed good to high reliability in both left a…

Autobiographical memory and the self in a single-case of chronic unilateral spatial neglect

2016

International audience; Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) is mainly defined as a condition affecting perception and the mental representation of the environment. However, nothing is known about its impact on the ability to mentally represent one's past and on personal identity. We addressed these questions in a case of chronic USN, DR, a 59-year-old right-handed woman, who underwent a variety of measures exploring the self and autobiographical memory (AM). DR showed preserved self-images and her AM performance was only preserved when memories were prompted by her own self-images and not by self-unrelated cues. Our findings are discussed in light of the interconnection between the self and AM.

Unilateral sensorineural hearing loss in scholastic age subjects: Psychopedagogical aspects

2006

The Authors want to assess a probable significant relation between the unilateral sensorineural hearing loss and some learning difficulties and language acquisitions, often found, through our observation, in impaired children. The Authors have examined a group of subjects in their scholastic age who have this kind of hearing loss and, through several dialogues with them, they have gathered some relevant data about the difficulties that children have at school, and drawn up a questionnaire.

Individuality of responses to bilateral and unilateral volume equated hypertrophic strength training in physically active men

2019

Purpose. The purpose of the present study was to investigate possible differences between unilateral and bilateral strength training during ten weeks progressive hypertrophic strength training and six weeks detraining period. Furthermore, it was examined possible different individual responders in muscle hypertrophy during strength training and, how those different responders would behave during the detraining phase following the training period. Methods. The present intervention included ten weeks of progressive hypertrophic resistance training followed by six weeks of detraining in healthy young men (n=24). Ultrasound was used to measure vastus lateralis (VL) muscle cross-sectional area (…

Facial nerve schwannoma involving middle cranial fossa: When the unilateral sensorineural hearing loss guide to the correct diagnosis

2011

The Facial Nerve Schwannoma is a rare tumor and it seldom involved the middle cranial fossa. Facial nerve schwannoma has various manifestations, including facial palsy but unfortunately facial nerve is very resistant to compression and often facial nerve paralysis or a facial weakness are not present. We present a case of giant facial nerve schwannoma involved the middle cranial fossa without facial nerve paralysis. In these cases the unilateral hearing loss (if present) guide to a correct diagnosis.

Nephrotoxicity of ibandronate and zoledronate in Wistar rats with normal renal function and after unilateral nephrectomy.

2015

A previous animal study compared the nephrotoxic effect of ibandronate (IBN) and zoledronate (ZOL), but interpretation of these study results was limited because of the model of minimal nephrotoxic dosage with a dosage ratio of 1:3. The present study investigated the nephrotoxicity of ibandronate and zoledronate in a 1.5:1 dose ratio, as used in clinical practice and compared the nephrotoxicity in rats with normal and with mildly to moderately impaired renal function. We compared rats with normal renal function (SHAM) and with impaired renal function after unilateral nephrectomy (UNX), treated either with ibandronate 1.5mg/kg, zoledronate 1mg/kg or placebo once (1×) or nine (9×) times. Rena…

Determination of renal tissue ibandronate levels in rats with normal and mildly impaired renal function

2013

After entering the blood, bisphosphonates are immediately bound to bone or excreted unchanged by the kidney. During renal excretion about 0.5% of administrated dosage remains in kidney tissue. The renal tissue level of bisphosphonates (RTL) decreases over time and remains at about 0.15% after 3weeks, but the influence of renal insufficiency (RI) is unclear. We investigated the influence of mild to moderate RI on RTL of ibandronate (IBD). First a method for determination of RTL was implemented and validated. We measured RTL in rats with normal renal function (SHAM) and after unilateral nephrectomy (UNX). In each case one SHAM and one UNX groups received one or alternatively 9 times every 3wee…
