Uniqueness and reconstruction for the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement

We show global uniqueness in the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement and with data on arbitrary, possibly disjoint subsets of the exterior. The previous work \cite{GhoshSaloUhlmann} considered the case of infinitely many measurements. The method is again based on the strong uniqueness properties for the fractional equation, this time combined with a unique continuation principle from sets of measure zero. We also give a constructive procedure for determining an unknown potential from a single exterior measurement, based on constructive versions of the unique continuation result that involve different regularization schemes.

A note on the uniqueness result for the inverse Henderson problem

The inverse Henderson problem of statistical mechanics is the theoretical foundation for many bottom-up coarse-graining techniques for the numerical simulation of complex soft matter physics. This inverse problem concerns classical particles in continuous space which interact according to a pair potential depending on the distance of the particles. Roughly stated, it asks for the interaction potential given the equilibrium pair correlation function of the system. In 1974, Henderson proved that this potential is uniquely determined in a canonical ensemble and he claimed the same result for the thermodynamical limit of the physical system. In a bounded domain Ω we deal with the Dirichlet problem by taking A = R N and u = 0 in R N ∖ Ω , and the Neumann problem by taking A = Ω . We include here the limit case p = 1 that has the extra difficulty of giving a meaning to u ( y ) − u ( x ) | u ( y ) − u ( x ) | when u ( y ) = u ( x ) . A strongly degenerate quasilinear elliptic equation

Abstract We prove existence and uniqueness of entropy solutions for the quasilinear elliptic equation u - div a ( u , Du ) = v , where 0 ⩽ v ∈ L 1 ( R N ) ∩ L ∞ ( R N ) , a ( z , ξ ) = ∇ ξ f ( z , ξ ) , and f is a convex function of ξ with linear growth as ∥ ξ ∥ → ∞ , satisfying other additional assumptions. In particular, this class of equations includes the elliptic problems associated to a relativistic heat equation and a flux limited diffusion equation used in the theory of radiation hydrodynamics, respectively. A logarithmic fourth-order parabolic equation and related logarithmic Sobolev inequalities

A logarithmic fourth-order parabolic equation in one space dimension with periodic boundary conditions is studied. This equation arises in the context of fluctuations of a stationary nonequilibrium interface and in the modeling of quantum semiconductor devices. The existence of global-in-time non-negative weak solutions and some regularity results are shown. Furthermore, we prove that the solution converges exponentially fast to its mean value in the ``entropy norm'' and in the Fisher information, using a new optimal logarithmic Sobolev inequality for higher derivatives. In particular, the rate is independent of the solution and the constant depends only on the initial value of the entropy.

A nonhomogeneous nonlocal elasticity model

Nonlocal elasticity with nonhomogeneous elastic moduli and internal length is addressed within a thermodynamic framework suitable to cope with continuum nonlocality. The Clausius–Duhem inequality, enriched by the energy residual, is used to derive the state equations and all other thermodynamic restrictions upon the constitutive equations. Artichoke and Cynar liqueur: two (not quite) entangled proteomes.

Combinatorial peptide ligand libraries (CPLLs) have been adopted to investigate the proteome of artichoke extracts, of a home-made alcoholic infusion and of the Italian Cynar liqueur. The aim of study was not only to perform the deepest investigation so far of the artichoke proteome but also to assess the genuineness of the commercial aperitif via a three-pronged attack. TOPOLOGICAL QUANTUM DOUBLE

Following a preceding paper showing how the introduction of a t.v.s. topology on quantum groups led to a remarkable unification and rigidification of the different definitions, we adapt here, in the same way, the definition of quantum double. This topological double is dualizable and reflexive (even for infinite dimensional algebras). Blow-up collocation solutions of nonlinear homogeneous Volterra integral equations

In this paper, collocation methods are used for detecting blow-up solutions of nonlinear homogeneous Volterra-Hammerstein integral equations. To do this, we introduce the concept of "blow-up collocation solution" and analyze numerically some blow-up time estimates using collocation methods in particular examples where previous results about existence and uniqueness can be applied. Finally, we discuss the relationships between necessary conditions for blow-up of collocation solutions and exact solutions.
