Johdanto: Suomenkielisessä lehdistössä esiintyy erittäin vähän unkarinkielisiä elementtejä. Jos niitä esiintyy, ovat ne poikkeuksetta nimiä. Tässä työssä kartoitan Suomen luetuimmassa sanomalehdessä, Helsingin Sanomissa esiintyviä unkarilaisia nimiä. Aineistoni koostuu 1997 syyskuun ja 1998 tammikuun välillä esiintyneestä 109j:stä nimestä. Pienoistutkielmani näkökulma on selvittää kyseisten nimien oikeinkirjoitusvirheitä sekä pohtia niiden syitä. Aluksi kartoitan unkarilaisten nimien kielenhuollollisia ongelmakohtia (luku 2). Sitten esittelen aineistoa (luku 3). Hungarian private linguistic landscape in South-West Slovakia

In the field of Linguistic Landscape research little attention has been paid to the situations where a minoritized group gives the regional majority, such as South-­‐West Slovakia where Hungarians form the majority. A clear majority of public signs, also in the region with a Hungarian majority, are only in Slovak, especially in the ‘official’, public sphere. In rural communities, signs posted by private citizens can be relatively frequent, too. In the truly non-­‐ commercial private sphere, minorities have autonomy in public language choice. Language ideologies in the Romanian Banat : analysis of interviews and academic writings among the Hungarians and Germans

This is an introduction to a compilation of six articles on language ideologies in the Romanian Banat. My dissertation was initiated by fieldwork in the area, resulting to a database of interviews among the Hungarian and German inhabitants. This data is compared to intellectual writings. With regards to researcher position, I identify myself as a traveler in the area and as a foreign scholar. The analytical framework of this study draws from the study of Language Ideologies and Conversation Analysis.Here, language ideologies are broadly defined as metalinguistic discourse or talk about language.
