2020
In the night's stay, where pulsate the origins (Alexandria, Milan, Mexico), Italo-Mexican poet Fabio Morábito (Alexandria, 1955) works to turn the language towards poetic inflammation. Since the very first collection, writing intimately binds to the night, where it is lodged, built and thought of in an inbetweenness, writing on the borders of the first idiom - the family and nomadic Italian - and of the adopted Spanish as the palimpsest of the intimate breath. So the lyrical gesture always seems to question, in the momentum of the verses, the part of the advance and that of the reversal of a voice constantly reconquered to strangeness. We intend here to examine the desire of night of a poet …

The aim of this study is to investigate the phenomena at work in the building of traditional healers’ identities in Reunion Island. They are called by many names of which « devineur, prêtre malbar, diseur la prière, magnétiseur, tisaneur » are just a few. These masters’ healers originate from the crossing of many cultures and folks coming from Europe, Africa, Madagascar, India, and China, and continue to thrive till nowadays in this …
Life beyond the camp : rethinking return, reconstruction and women's expression of lived experiences in Northern Uganda
2015
The conflict in Northern Uganda is recognized as having come to an end with the signing of a cessation of hostilities agreement between the Lord’s Resistance Army and the Government of Uganda in August 2006, which resulted in improved security. Estimates suggest that the majority of the displaced populations have left their camps and moved either to transit sites near farms or to their village of origin. Much research has been done on the living conditions of women in the Ugandan IDP camps yet very little has been written on the situation for women who return home or resettle after the camp. This study aims at understanding the gender specific challenges of formerly conflict-displaced women…

Performing arts and mediation technology in the period of lockdown
2021
Advancements in digital technologies have become novel ways to enrich communication, expression, and transmission of arts knowledge. Technology is increasingly implemented in the performance space, as a source of inspiration for artists. Especially in this period of lockdown, mediation technology has turned out to be an essential tool for different aspects of social life, as in performing arts. With venues, schools and artistic activities closed, performers, students and spectators have been obliged to keep connecting in remote conditions. This article wants to retrace the aesthetic impact of mediation technology in performing arts during this period of lockdown by focusing on the aspects t…
Phytosociological characterization of the Celtis tournefortii subsp. aetnensis microwoods in Sicily
2014
A work on the Celtis tournefortii subsp. aetnensis vegetation, endemic species located in disjointed sites in the Sicilian inland, is here presented. It forms microwoods with a relict character established on screes and detrital coverages, on a variety of lithological substrates (volcanics, limestones, quartzarenites). Based on the phytosociological analysis carried out in the territory, these vegetation aspects are framed in the alliance Oleo-Ceratonion, within which a new association (Pistacio terebinthi-Celtidetum aetnensis) is described, in turn diversified in the following subassociations: a) typicum subass. nova, on detrital calcareous cones of the north-western part of Sicily, in the…
A reflective characterisation of occasional user
2017
This work revisits established user classifications and aims to characterise a historically unspecified user category, the Occasional User (OU). Three user categories, novice, intermediate and expert, have dominated the work of user interface (UI) designers, researchers and educators for decades. These categories were created to conceptualise user's needs, strategies and goals around the 80s. Since then, UI paradigm shifts, such as direct manipulation and touch, along with other advances in technology, gave new access to people with little computer knowledge. This fact produced a diversification of the existing user categories not observed in the literature review of traditional classificat…
Formidable Bracelet, Beautiful Lantern
2013
We live in an experience economy. The more saturated the global market becomes with products offering the same functions, services and quality, the more companies are wanting to appeal to the intangible needs and desires of consumers. To achieve this, designers and researchers are turning inwards to investigate the psychological factors affecting peoples' relationships and reactions towards design properties. For this reason, design semantics studies on user experience have been advancing all the time. Much emphasis has been placed on visual product experience, as well as the relationship between brand perception and user experience. These are important steps, which are referred to in this …
