New technologies have radically transformed not only geography as a discipline but also the geographies of the world. Indeed the digital has assumed an increasingly pervasive mediating role in the production of space as of geographic knowledge and imaginaries. The possibilities offered by the virtual in particular now offer a decisive contribution in communicating the meanings attributed to places and respond increasingly effectively to the emerging needs of the tourism sector. Digitally mediated visitor experiences aim to engage the senses and are effective when they promote rigorously realistic immersions. Within the framework of these reflections the paper highlights the renewed relevance of authenticity both of the tourism experience and of cultural heritage in relation to its potential for attraction and proposes a contextualization of the theme in light of the unprecedented opportunities granted by technologies for the creation of virtual and augmented spaces. The proposed discussion is therefore also a journey aimed at exploring authenticity as a tool through which new technologies can effectively mediate a sense of place and foster brand communication of a destination. The case study is the UNESCO site of Tarragona whose most relevant image for urban policies is presented. This shared figuration spatially defined and rooted in a precise historical moment is reconstructed on the one hand through the analysis of functional documentation for the candidacy and on the other by means of a review of mobile applications developed for the promotion of the city's cultural heritage. The proposed journey and exploration of the place return in light of the research data and in conclusion the central role played by digital technologies in mediating the UNESCO imaginary. The forms of virtual tourism in Tarragona confirm that to travel is to experience a text enveloped in time and inscribed in space.Settore M-GGR/01 - Geografia

Polycystic ovary and gonadoblastoma in Turner's syndrome.

2007

Turner's syndrome (TS) is characterized by typical facial features, short stature, hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, streak gonads, infertility, hearth and kidney malformations. Typical karyotype is 45,X0; however, 6% of TS have mosaic patterns including Y chromosome or fragments of Y. This karyotype is a risk factor of developing a dysgerminoma in dysgenic gonads. Furthermore, rare cases of polycystic ovary are described in young-adult patients with TS. We describe the clinical case of a 12-year-old girl with TS treated with GH who showed a good response to treatment. She developed an ovary with histological polycystic pattern and a contralateral gonadoblastoma in the streak gonad. Laparosco…

A rare case of solitary brain Langerhans cell histiocytosis with intratumoral hemorrhage in a patient affected by Turner syndrome

2016

Background: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease involving clonal proliferation of cells with characteristics similar to bone marrow-derived Langerhans cells. The case of a young woman, affected by Turner syndrome and a solitary intraparenchymal LCH associated with an osteolytic lesion of the overlying skull, is presented. Case Description: The patient, with an insidious history of headache and a growing soft mass in the left frontal region, presented with a sudden generalized tonic-clonic epileptic seizure. Neuroradiological investigations showed an osteolytic lesion of the left frontal bone and an underlying brain lesion associated with recent signs of bleeding. The patie…

Congenital Malformations and Syndromes: Early Diagnosis and Prognosis

2012

Congenital malformations are defects of the morphogenesis of organs or body regions identified during intrauterine development or at birth. They may be isolated and single, or multiple. Their global birth prevalence is about 2–3%. Congenital defects may be caused by genetic and/or environmental factors, acting singly or in combination. Diagnostic and therapeutic tools have allowed better identification of congenital malformations and have reduced long-term morbidity and mortality in affected patients. Because of increased life expectancy, congenital malformations today represent a major issue in health care because of the resources needed for multidisciplinary care.

GH successful treatment in a female with a de novo 46,XX,add(X)(p36),t(X;Y)(p36.3;p11.2), growth impairment and SHOX-haploinsufficiency

2019

Abstract Children with chromosome translocations, concerning X chromosome, have a genetic pattern different from Turner syndrome; however, when a translocation involves the of part of X chromosome including short stature homeobox-containing Sex-determining Region Y gene, growth may be severely compromised. We describe the clinical case of a 2.2-year-old-female, arrived at our paediatric unit for a decrease of height velocity. The karyotype was 46,XX,add(X)(p36.3). Array comparative genomic hybridization showed a fragment of Y chromosome, extended from 8.803.981 (Yp11.2) to 28.767.604 (Yq11.23). The final karyotype was 46,XX,add(X)(p36),t(X;Y)(p36.3;p11.2). Favara Farm Cultural Park. Una sequenza non lineare. A non-linear sequence

2018

This essay proposes a reflection on the Farm Cultural Parck as a place in transformation. The Farm project describes a daily life that is not attracted to fashion trends. For this reason, as in a diachronic trip, we describe the latent urban transformation and the emergence of a new awareness in the difficult local situation.

'L'ADAMO, OVVERO IL MONDO CREATO' DI TOMMASO CAMPAILLA. UN CONTRIBUTO AL RINNOVAMENTO DELLA CULTURA SCIENTIFICA E LETTERARIA IN SICILIA

2022
