Identification of Volatile Compounds in Blackcurrant Berries: Differences Among Cultivars

2021

Berries of blackcurrant are known to produce a strong flavor. Some previous studies have reported that a given cultivar of blackcurrant can produce berries with a specific profile of volatile compounds. For the Burgundy region in France, the Noir de Bourgogne cultivar is especially important because it is the main ingredient of a liquor with a designation of origin. The aim of the present study was to characterize the volatile fractions of berries from 15 cultivars in order to explore the possibility of using different cultivars for liquor production. The plants were cultivated under the same conditions and harvested in the same year. The volatile fractions of the harvested berries were ana…

Preliminary insights into the molecular barcoding data of Turraea socotrana (Meliaceae) from Socotra (Yemen)

2020

The relationship of two geographically and ecologically separated populations of Turraea socotrana Styles and F. White (Meliaceae), a vulnerable and scattered shrub from the island of Socotra (Yemen), was explored using preliminary molecular data. The nuclear ribosomal ITS region was used to screen the level of genetic divergence of T. socotrana from ecologically distant localities in comparison to a few other species of Turraea and closely related genera. The individuals from the inland (Diksam) differed from the western coastal ones (Ma’alah) by vegetative characters and by the rbcL gene. This may be due to the fact that the population from Ma’alah grows on lithosoil slopes directly expos…

Metabolites from the aerial parts of the Sicilian population of Artemisia alba Turra

2013

Phytochemical investigation of the CH2Cl2 extract of the aerial parts of Artemisia alba Turra afforded one new irregular sesquiterpenoid, artemiric acid, and five known metabolites: hydroxydavanone, the coumarins isofraxidin and scopoletin, (6S*,7S*,10R*)-6,10-dimethyl-7,10-epoxyocta-11-enoic acid and artalbic acid. From the MeOH extract three flavonoids were identified: chrysoeriol, quercetin and isorhamnetin. The possible biogenetic pathways of artemiric and artalbic acids are discussed.

Understanding the Role of Emotion in Self-Service Technology Adoption: A Structured Abstract

2015

Recent advances in technology have given organizations the opportunity to provide self-service through the medium of technology, and accordingly, the provision of these technology-based services has increased in the last decade (Holman & Buzek, 2007; Lee et al., 2010). Providing consumers with the opportunity for self-service allows organizations to reduce the number of staff members needed to provide a service to customers (Meuter et al., 2000). This allows organizations to speed up a service while maintaining costs, or to maintain speed while reducing costs. Importantly though, when providing these self-service options, organizations must ensure that standards of service are maintained in…

Iconofilia ed iconoclastia: Teodoro Abū Qurrah e la diatriba sull’immagine tra Cristianesimo d’Oriente ed Islām

2021

The main theme of this intervention is the role played by Syrian and PalestinianChristians in collecting and preserving the Greek philosophical thought and in guaranteeing its trasmission by being the warrantors of Greek and Patristic culture in the following centuries. During the period following the Islamic expansion, these started to translate in arabic this cultural heritage and it is thanks to this translating masterpiece from Greek to Syrian or from Greek to Arabic that the new comers found the first Arabic translations of the greatest Greek philosophers. The author whose thought will be inspected lived under the caliphates of Hārūn al-Rašīd (766–809) and al-Ma ʾmūn (786–833). Teodoro…

Les impacts du campagnol terrestre sur les systèmes fourragers : le cas de l’élevage bovin allaitant en Bourgogne

2014

EAAgroSupECOLDUR; Do vole outbreaks have the same effects on suckler beef farms in Burgundy as they do on daily farms in Auvergne and Franche-Comte? Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 19 farmers from Burgundy who had been affected by a water vole outbreak in 2011. The results indicate that, just like farmers in Auvergne and Franche-Comte, farmers in Burgundy witnessed a decrease in forage quantity and quality. Farmers used diverse measures to deal with the outbreak (e.g., avoidance strategies or the use of bromadiolone). Farmers that described water voles as pests were more likely to have used bromadiolone, while those who described water voles in morphological terms or in ter…
