Usages et perceptions des T.I.C. à l'université

2002

The purpose is to analyze how students and teachers use and perceive ICT at the university. Both do not equally access to new techologies. The academic function of new technologies is questionable, according to the relative reject of the perspective of the virtual university.

How do individuals emotionally cope with the imminent real-world salience of mortality? DeWall and Baumeister as well as Kashdan and colleagues previously provided support that an increased use of positive emotion words serves as a way to protect and defend against mortality salience of one’s own contemplated death. Although these studies provide important insights into the psychological dynamics of mortality salience, it remains an open question how individuals cope with the immense threat of mortality prior to their imminent actual death. In the present research, we therefore analyzed positivity in the final words spoken immediately before execution by 407 death row inmates in Texas. By u…

« L’homme-à-fourchette ». La construction du convive-modèle à la table de Buckingham Palace

2021

“Every meal is a lesson learned”. The Victorian saying warns of the risk of punishment that every guest constantly incurs. These sanctions often relate to the way in which one approaches, one selects, one handles the cutlery on the table. Indeed, the construction of the ideal guest, of his way of being with others and of behaving in relation to food, often and above all involves being a "model user" of table service. We will analyze this aspect from the images and speeches posted on the Windsors' Twitter account, the official websites of the Royal Family and the manners manuals they sponsor. Each of these supports manifests an aspect of the subjectivity of the ideal guest as a model-user of…

Efficient on-the-fly Web bot detection

2021

Abstract A large fraction of traffic on present-day Web servers is generated by bots — intelligent agents able to traverse the Web and execute various advanced tasks. Since bots’ activity may raise concerns about server security and performance, many studies have investigated traffic features discriminating bots from human visitors and developed methods for automated traffic classification. Very few previous works, however, aim at identifying bots on-the-fly, trying to classify active sessions as early as possible. This paper proposes a novel method for binary classification of streams of Web server requests in order to label each active session as “bot” or “human”. A machine learning appro…

Mediju lietojuma paradumi un motivācija pusaudžu auditorijā Rīgas vidusskolās

2018

Codon usage in the siliceous sponge Geodia cydonium: highly expressed genes in the simplest multicellular animals prefer C- and G-ending codons

2001

Among a sample of 39 Geodia cydonium (Demospongiae, Porifera) genes, with an average Gh+hC content of 51.2%, extensive structural heterogeneity and considerable variations in synonymous codon usage were found. The G + C content of coding sequences and G + C content at silent codon positions (GC3S) varied from 42.4 to 59.2% and from 35.6 to 76.5%, respectively. Correspondence analysis of 39 genes revealed that putative highly expressed genes preferentially use a limited subset of codons, which were therefore defined as preferred codons in G. cydonium. A total of 22 preferred codons for 18 amino acids with synonyms in codons were identified and they all (with one exception) end with C or G. A…
