Investigating teachers motivation to use ICT tools in higher education

There are a lot of information and communication technology (ICT) tools for education, but the motivation to use those varies from teacher to teacher. In this paper we present results of an international survey on teachers' use of ICT tools in education. The purpose of the survey was to find out what motivates teachers to use ICT tools in the context of teaching. The survey also intended to reveal which tools are used as well as the needs and requirements that are not covered by the existing tools. Silver-Russell syndrome associated to Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome, diabetes and hirsutism

We report an unusual association of two rare conditions, the Silver-Russell syndrome and the Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, with extra endocrine anomalies. A 15-year old Silver-Russell syndrome girl was referred to our Unit because of primary amenorrhea and hirsutism of adrenal origin. A thorough assessment confirmed previous diagnoses and revealed the presence of diabetes, hyperinsulinism and a complete Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome with an ectopic localization of both ovaries. Although initial medical treatment was not unsatisfactory, future medical, psychological and social implications are expected.

ATLAS operations in the GridKa T1/T2 Cloud

The ATLAS GridKa cloud consists of the GridKa Tier1 centre and 12 Tier2 sites from five countries associated to it. Over the last years a well defined and tested operation model evolved. Multifacet structure of observed reconstructed integral images.

Three-dimensional images generated by an integral imaging system suffer from degradations in the form of grid of multiple facets. This multifacet structure breaks the continuity of the observed image and therefore reduces its visual quality. We perform an analysis of this effect and present the guidelines in the design of lenslet imaging parameters for optimization of viewing conditions with respect to the multifacet degradation. We consider the optimization of the system in terms of field of view, observer position and pupil function, lenslet parameters, and type of reconstruction. Numerical tests are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.
