Technological and behavioral aspects of perforated building envelope in the Mediterranean region
2015
Perforated building envelope presents a global contemporary architectural trend which is connected – in some circumstances – to the traditional perforated models, such as ‘Mashrabiyya’, ‘Takhtabush’, ‘Qmariyyah’, etc. This study focuses on perforated models that have archetypical perforated elements within buildings and have technological and behavioural functions reflecting socio-cultural values, economic situation, and environmental needs of the building’s users. An analytical comparison (technologically and behaviourally) has been conducted between the selected contemporary cases of perforated buildings and the traditional models, by considering various aspects of the building’s envelope…

Practices and Knowledge: Philosophy of Biomedicine, Governance and Citizen Participation
2018
The present chapter addresses the emergence of new forms of governance and citizen participation in the context of certain biotechnologies. On the basis of three case studies, we have mapped different models of public participation in health issues (especially health activism and Internet users, though not exclusively): identifying and analyzing actors, their mutual relationships (mainly those between "patients"/activists groups and the biomedical community), strategies and forms of participation, the exchange and circulation of "expert/lay" knowledge (and the role of the Internet in these processes), and the different activities and forms of knowledge production by "lay" citizen groups (or…

Computer Vision Interaction for People with Severe Movement Restrictions
2006
In this paper we present the starting point of research in applying humancomputer interaction (HCI) techniques to help people with cerebral palsy to use computers via vision-based interaction. Our work includes the development and improvement of visionbased assistive technology, which was tested in experiments with cerebral palsy users. A brief review of current assistive technologies for severely physically impaired people and an explanation of the developed applications of such technologies are also presented. The final part of the paper describes the experimentation goals, process, and preliminary results. Future work directions are also indicated.

Are Online Haters Psychopaths? Psychological Predictors of Online Hating Behavior
2020
Despite growing prevalence of derogatory online behaviors, still little is known about psychological factors underlying this negative phenomenon. Ninety-four Internet users (41% women) participated in the study, among which 46 posted hating comments. After one month, participants were invited to take part in a psychological survey, and filled the Dark Triad questionnaire, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Scale of Frustration, and the Scale of Envy.
