In 2013, the authors prepared a report on educational excellence and equity in Finland based on PISA 2009 data and asked the question “Could Finland achieve both excellence and equality goals in the coming decade? Five years later, this report re-examines the challenge faced by Finland in light of recent PISA results. The Finnish school system, both the Finnish and Swedish speaking components, have consistently ranked at the top of the list of OECD countries. Driving through floodwater: Exploring driver decisions through the lived experience

More than half of unintentional flood-related drowning deaths in Australia are due to driving through floodwater, despite on-going public campaigns. Currently, there is a knowledge gap in understanding why individuals choose to drive through floodwater and the decisions that may lead to such actions. We propose that a more complete understanding of individuals’ decisions to drive through floodwater needs to be considered in the context of the lived experience. School Tracking and Mental Health

To understand how the type of education affects long-term mental health, we examine the effects of a comprehensive school reform on mental health–related hospitalizations and deaths. The reform postponed the tracking of students into vocational and academic schools from age 11 to age 16, thus affecting the set of peers and the curriculum to which these students were exposed. The reform was implemented gradually across Finnish municipalities between 1972 and 1977. We use difference-in-differences variation and administrative data. Beliefs and Experiences of Individuals Following a Zero-Carb Diet

The adoption of carbohydrate-restrictive diets to improve health is increasing in popularity, but there is a dearth of research on individuals who choose to severely restrict or entirely exclude carbohydrates. The present study investigated the beliefs and experiences of individuals following a diet that severely limits, or entirely excludes, dietary carbohydrates, colloquially known as a ‘zero-carb’ diet, for at least 6 months. Tämän pro gradu tutkielman tarkoituksena on tarkastella turkkilaisen imaamin, Muhammed Fethullah Gülenin poliittista ideologiaa, hänen ympärilleen muodostunutta sosiaalista Gülen-liikettä eli hizmet-palveluliikettä ja näiden kahden asemaa Turkin politiikassa. Lisäksi pohditaan uskonnon ja sekulaarin taistelua, uskonnon merkitystä politiikassa ja erityisesti Turkissa. Työssä pyritään avaamaan myös Gülen-liikkeen tavoitteita ja pyrkimyksiä.
