Following on from the seminal works by Blinder (1973) and Oaxaca (1973), many methods have been proposed to measure wage discrimination against women. Some of these methods focus on the entire distribution of the discrimination experienced by each woman, underlining a common aspect of poverty and discrimination analysis: the latter two are both based on an idea of deprivation which originates from a poverty line (in the case of poverty) and from the expected wage in the absence of discrimination (in the case of wage discrimination) (Jenkins, 1994; Del Río et al., 2011). Forest road planning with the available tools, e.g. PEGGER and GIS, still requires a lot of time of an expert, and the designed roads are not guaranteed to be efficient in terms of the cost or suitability of the road. In this article, we propose a novel Genetic Algorithm (GA) based method for forest road planning. To do so, each road is represented as a sequence of fixed and variable (control) points. Utilization of glucose and proline in the brain of adult insects

Abstract The objective of this study was to ascertain if proline can be used as a substrate by insect brains. Utilization of d -[U14C]glucose and l -[U14C]proline by isolated brains from 25 different species of insects, belonging to six separate orders, was measured using a radiomicrorespirometric method. Glucose utilization is more pronounced in brains of relatively smaller and highly evolved insects than in larger and more primitive insects. Brains of Blattodea exhibit little proline utilization. 14CO2 production from labelled glucose and proline in brains of insects seems to be correlated with the metabolic rate of these organs.

In recent years, methods of computational authorship attribution have offered promising results for the reattribution of classical texts. We use and further develop these methods to verify the authorship of several texts belonging or related to the Ciceronian corpus: Rhetorica ad C. Herennium, De inventione, De optimo genere oratorum, and Commentariolum petitionis. We use two classifiers, Support Vector Machine and Convolutional Neural Network, of which the latter is more accurate except in regard to certain aspects of vocabulary.
